I'm pretty much decided on electronics for my brand new and first AV surround system, Marantz SR7400 AV receiver (can get the price of a new SR5500 and is awesome good sounding for a AV Receiver)
    and DV6400/6500 player.
    70% music/30%movies.

I'm trying to decide on speakers for months....
It's the esthetics, the size, the efficciency or the looks...

I was decided on the MA Silver S2+S1+SLCR but the size of the SLCR won't fit in my furniture... but loved the sound very much with Marantz.
    I have listened to Monitor Audio Silver :) , Wharfedale Evo  , B&W 600  , Canton Karat :) , Visonik Evolution :) ...

I never put the Quad as an option (esthetics), but he L12 / L11 have a very good finish and look good closed...
Can the L21+L11+Lcenter be a good match for the Sr7400?

    Thanx in advance!

I currently have the Quad 21L's and Quad L Centre as my fronts, and they sound awesome.

They sit VERY well with the SR7400, they are a bit unforgiving with badly produced CD media though, and your source also needs to be good, so I would recommend a seperate CD player as well as your DVD player, although the Marantz DVD players do have a good rep with CD's too.

The speakers are fantastic, you won't go wrong with that combo at all.

I think the dv6400 is nice in CD playing (for a DVD player) even if not the same as a dedicated player...

I have listened the SR7400 with both Maratnz CD7300 and DV6400 and THERE WAS A DIFFERENCE but the same character...
I may upgrade with somehing like a Musical Fidelity X-DAC or similar...

Not my kind even if very good looking... I would prefer the Bronze series, but I'm more into the Silvers performance class...

I finally managed to get a pair of 11L to audition yesterday.

Teh setup included Denon 3805 and Primare DVD20 in stereo music.

I liked it a lot :) I herad the 3805 before with 4 different speaker all more expensive than the 11L and the 11L are great, very natural, very musical... nice!

The 12L as fronts may be the ones... must compare them side to side to the MA Silver S2...

Now I must decide between in the amp question... a Marantz SR5500 or the upper level, SR7400(great prices now)/7500...

I would like to hear the 1500/2500 series... ;)
But if the Quads were good with the Denon 3805, they even could do something with a Yamaha amp... :D

Av Receivers... that's something I don't even like the name...

The Quads are great, if only I had the money...

Have you thought about the 21L's as fronts, they're a similar price to the 12L's once you add on the price of stands.

Also, if you're thinking of changing your amp I'd get one where you can bi-amp the fronts. Maybe a Pioneer AX5Ai or Arcam 250.

    Prices in Portugal:

    11L: 407€
    12L.: 571€
    21L: 935€
    Lcenter: 261€

For the first time, they are cheaper than in the UK :D
And cheaper than the equivalent MA Silver models... ;)
