Question Marantz SR6012 question

So after many years with my Yamaha YSP-2200, I thought I'd treat myself and upgrade because the sound projection never really worked well in my odd shape room.

I bought an open box Marantz SR6012 at about £650 and an open box Focal Evo SIB 5.1.2 package for about £599. I added a pair of Focal Evo SIB Atmos speakers for about £399 giving me 5.1.4. I have a spare 2 satellite speakers but no amp to power the for 7.1.4, from what I've read I'm not sure it is worth it for now.

In all, this sounds a lot better than what I had. Dedicated rear speakers and Atmos sound amazing!. You can see in the pictures that there isn't a great deal of space, the two fronts i have to move onto stands today. Also in ceiling speakers is out of the question.

There is a question weighing on my mind; is there something better out there at roughly the same price point?

I think you've got a pretty good set up for what you've paid, including the speaker package. Of course you could get better if you wanted to throw money at it. In reality you only need to upgrade the front three as these will always carry the greater load of any soundtrack. Your benefit would be to have two speakers that could perform as rear surrounds with just the centre being made redundant.

But if you want to run 7.1.4 you rightly as you've pointed out need to have another amp brought in to drive the extra speakers.

The 6012 is a very capable receiver and would easily drive speakers of a higher calibre than the Focals but it may be a bit pointless making a small improvement and waiting until the budget allows for a substantial move forward.

Perhaps post a sketch with dimensions of your room to see what may be recommended by members.

Thank you for taking the time to write back. Not sure i quite follow what you said here.

It will be a long time before I am allowed to upgrade so I just wantwa to make sure what i bought is a good choice for the price paid and that i didnt make any costly mistakes.

I have updated the pictures and added dimensions.

I read your post as looking to upgrade. Never mind. You've got a good system there that should give you a lot of enjoyment.:smashin:

I think I'm going to return the Focal's. I thought about replacing them with the Q Acoustics Q3000i cinema pack, but open to informed suggestions! (without breaking the bank)
