Marantz SR5400 vs Denon AVR2803 in Stereo Audio?
Which one is best? Anyone has heard both?
The 5400 is a class lower than the 2803, so not really fair to compare both. A fairer comparison would be the Marantz SR7400 and Denon 2803, where I feel the Marantz SR7400 is a better stereo performer than the Denon. But everyone has their own tastes.
The 2803 is a great piece of kit, but I think you will benefit more with the SR7400 if stereo music is high on your list of priorities.
The comparison is due to the fact that the 2803 is now available at the same (or lower prices) due to being replaced by the 2805...
In that case the 2803 is a much better buy than the 5400 imho.
In AV I'm sure of that, in pure Audio I'm not sure...
I would put my neck out to say that the standard 5400 is not as good as the 2803 for stereo audio, the OSE version may well be a different kettle of fish though.
But if you can get the 2803 for standard 5400 money (approx £200) then the 2803 is definitely the better buy
The SR5400 sells for 350£ in the UK, 800 in Portugal and around 600~650 in German Net shops...
The 2803 is around 600~650 in german and french net shops, normal retail price at around 1000...
The SR5400 was being sold by Richer Sounds in the UK for £200/£249 I believe. And that was for the silver version. Some stores may still have them, but I can't see it on their website anymore.
Don;t know what the European prices are like though. Richer do not sell the SR5400 online anymore, just its little brother the SR4400 for £192. The cheapest online price I can see for the 5400 right now is £262.
