    Hi,

can anyone tell me where I can possibly get one of these Amps Cheap on the Net?

Im looking for a Gold one.

Cheapest I have seen in £340.

With the newer models coming out soon, I was wondering if anyone was selling them off cheap?

    Anyone know?

    Cheers.

What are you thoughts on it? what have you used previously? Am thinking of this as an upgrade from my sony940 so I can have pro-logic 2 and 6.1

I am very happy with the 5200. It was doddle to set up. The sound is superb.

I use PL2 on all TV and VHS surround encoded sources and it is well worth having. I dont use 6.1 because it involves using custom install speakers (no room for full speaker at rear) and that means I have to wait until next year when my "cinema room" gets an overhaul.

But my experience is limited. I had a budget of £400 and demoed it againts the Yamaha 630. I didnt look at the denon and nothing else sub£400 seemed to get as many raves. The Marantz wasnt as "loud" as the Yamaha but whatever it does do it does with control. They were both very good with DD (didnt demo DTS). The yam clearly had more tweaks but I watch films for the film not the soundtrack, I wouldnt be interested in testing which of the 30+ settings would suit whiich film best. Although some threads find the transition effects on the Marantz from speaker to speaker isnt that good. I found this when I first switched it on, but when I had set the speaker distances I found the transitions smooth and convincing.

The difference in control between the two is especially noticeable with Music. There really isnt much in it, so this is IMHO, but if you put classical on, there is more clarity in mid to high frequencies. And if you put a bass track on the Marantz seems to have more control than the Yamaha. But as all these forums point out we all have different ears and tastes and what suits one wont suit another.

Best thing is to get a demo as then you may not end up with all the bells and whistles but youll end up with something you personally think is the best you could have got.

Not anymore, they removed this about a week ago. Theres now only the 4200 / 5200 there. Unfortunately they've also removed the 4300/5300/6300/7300 that were there too

    How old is it mate?

I can get a new one for £340 inc postage so if it's relatively old then I'll go for that, as yours would be about £270 inc postage
