Has anyone heard or own the Marantz SR5200, 6.1 channel receiver? Are there any known faults with it? Where is the cheapest place to buy it?
hi fi junkies.com £345. You can collect if you live near Enfield or it's free delivery anyway. Best price I could find on the web! Setting it up is fun though! I think for the price it is best on the market and is as good as the Denon 2802(over £100 dearer!).
Hi Why was the Marantz 5200 fun to setup. The reason I ask the question is because I am also considering purchasing one. Have you seen any write up's on this a/v amp on the web or magazine. Thx, in advance.
What I mean by fun setting up is compared to the Kenwood A/V amp I bought about 8 years ago things have certainly moved forward and the features of the amp are amazing! It certainly is not as straight forward as the Kenwood where I simply connected the speakers and switched on. However, I would thoroughly recommend the 5200 and will doubt if you can get it cheaper than hijunkies.
Hi Mancubas, Yes, there is a review you can read, it was in Dec 2001 edition of Home Entertainment magazine (I think). I have got both the SR5200 and the magazine, the review gives it a 'best buy' and the kit is fantastic to say the least. Got mine for the full retail price (£399) but got decent digi coax and s-video cables thrown in the deal for free. Im pretty sure ive got the name of that mag right.......... im at work at the moment so will check when I get back home.
Just bought a 5200 off of Hifijunkies. What a great piece of kit! Definately the best price-to-performance receiver I've bought. Kicks my old Yammie 795 into touch - tighter bass, better seperation, cleaner sound, and all this out of the box. Nice. And I'd recommend Hifijunkies too. Low prices, quick delivery and that rarest of things: good customer service. What more do you need?
My local John Lewis aren't keen on price matching to the web anymore. Is this the same throughout the land now? Don't know about QED as I've only ordered kitchen appliances from them - their pricing seems sensible enough, but HiFi Junkies' customer service is their big win for me. Low prices attracted me, but the customer service means that I'll buy from them again. Keen pricing is nothing without a decent level of service.
I am a bit reluctant to buy from them as I have not heard of them before. If I can get QED-UK to price match them, I probably will buy it from them.
Got mine from www.homecinemaheaven.com - based in Wakefield. If you register with www.thedvdforums.com and go to the bargain thread - members can pick them up for £350 - email Justin who also responds to threads on the forum. I am very happy with mine along the the 4100 OSE DVd palyer I also bought from them - they also chucked in an IXOS Silver optical connect, the service is excellent. If you want confirmation then check out the comments in the hardware and suppliers forums. Got to say since finding the AVFORUMS and the DVDFORUMS, my luch-hour is not quite so dull. Anybody else for DPL II or 6 Ch Stereo??
Got a cracking deal on this amp last week, my old amp as a trade in [pioneer 808] leaving a balance of £244!!!!! Its been ordered in the gold colour from Global Hifi [Newcastle]
Martin E, Tried out a few DTS titles over the weekend - Saving Private Ryan (R1), American Pie 2 (R1), Stargate (R2) - didn't experience any of the problems mooted at in the 4200 thread. May well try out another title tonight to see if there's anything amiss, but so far I'm very happy with the receiver.
I recently ordered the 5200 from QED-UK.com for ...£305! I thought this was incredibly cheap, so didn't hesitate The rest of the range is also very cheap there, 6200 is £355 or something. I also got the Mission surround speakers from them, which were also very well priced. Graham.
....I noticed this great price at QED as well, but dithered a bit about getting one, I've just been back to the site today and all marantz prices have gone up by about 40 quid! .....it just shows that if you see one of these bargins you have to snap it up ASAP! cheers pizzed-monkey
The marantz sr5200 are £305 at the moment at http://www.hifijunkies.co.uk and are uk ones with 2 years warranty. and as sweeper said ( that rarest of things: good customer service.) I phoned them tuesday for some advice on the Marantz receivers and one of their staff said that the one i really needed to speak to was busy with another customer and can we ring you back ! (well you can guess what my thoughts were "I WONT HERE FROM THEM" Well to my suprise they rang me back when they said and spent 20 minutes or more giving me advice and answering my questions. So with there friendly service: Great price: Free delivery using UPS, one of the best couriers: They got my order today for the gold sr5200.
....I had my mind set of the gold SR4200 which I've had on order for a good few weeks now for 259 quid (a good price I thought). .....phoned hifijunkies just now, they have one in stock for 233 quid with free delivery etc! ...the price is so low for the SR5200 (305 quid) I concidered pushing the budget out further, but the gold version wont be in for a few weeks (black is in stock now, but its the old GF approval thing again)........so I've cancelled my order elsewhere and snapped up the hifijunkies 4200! .....but should I of waited for the 5200? how much better is it? .....this is my first serious set up (the bug has firmly got hold! ) cheers pizzed-monkey
<subliminal>You need the rear centre channel of the 5200</subliminal> hehe it's up to you, but it persuaded me to get it. Graham
Go to the Marantz website and choose the North American region. It allows you to compare the functionality of the 4200 and the 5200. If you want a bit more power, potential for a centre rear speaker and 7 channel input (for when SACD etc become worth getting) then go for the 5200. If you don't then the 4200 will be good enough for you. Good luck
Hi, I was going to purchase the Marantz SR5200 from QED-UK as well, but I just went to their website today and the price has gone up There are a lot of people who own the Marantz SR5200. Are there any known faults with it. What setup options does it give you?
