    Hi

I been thinking for a while that I should upgrade my current amp to something a little more newer as my one is getting on a bit. Basically I'm hoping somebody may have experience with the 2 amps in question and could tell me if the Yamaha is a cut above the Marantz ?

    Thanks,
    Marcus

I would personally say not much to be gained. Maybe going a step further up would be more beneficial.

Also worth checking out is the Marantz sr7500 as you like the marantz sound and your budget can stretch to it. The yamaha 1600 would be a better (although more expensive) choise :D

Thanks for the suggestions Dfour but the amps you recommended are about twice the price of 757SE and I can't afford that much to be honest. I may be able to stretch to £500 !

    www.avland.co.uk have an ex-demo Harman Kardon AVR335 at £450. That's £150 less that retail..........

I almost bought it but bought a new AVR340 from ebay last night for the same money.

Hi, I just upgraded to the Pioneer VSAX2 bought for £499 (ex-demo, but actually unused from audio excellence)

    also had the SR4200

Sounds identical in stereo but huge improvement in effect steering and general oomph in multi channel, plus you get HDMI switching etc.

Mind you I think it's killing my KEF coda 90's making some very unpleasent "puck" noises at high volumes!

With any luck I can finish them off and buy some decent speakers at last:thumbsup:

The Yamaha 1600 is of higher level than the 757 and the Marantz 4200. However, IMO its performance in music worst than the Marantz.

About the Yammy 757 for the Marantz 4200 - there won't be a better outcome just a different one. In order to get a real upgrade you must invest more money or go for second hand.
