Marantz PM6010 OSE. Volume surge

Hi, I have just purchased second hand hi-fi equipment from 3 difference sources.

Pro-ject turntable
Marantz PM6010 OSE
Wharfedale Valdus 400 speakers (floor standing)

When playing LPs the volume surges high then low, only 3 or 4 times across the full LP. I am a total novice so any advice would be warmly received.

Do you have any other sources you could check the amp with?
For starters just check that the stylus body is fully pushed in to the cartridge body - take care to avoid damaging the stylus.

Hi Wine man, thank you for your quick response. I tried it through the CD player and all is good. I gently pushed the stylus into the cartridge and all is good No more volume surges. Come to think of it my wife polished the turntable and I recon she has caught the Stylus.
