    Hi all

Its been a long time since I've posted, although I've lurked in the shadows!

Decided I want to upgrade my AV receiver and I have short-listed the above 2 models. Ive not listened to either yet, but would appreciate peoples opinions of either. My questions are.

the marantz has noticeably lower watts, but in a real world living room (which isn't particularly big) would I notice much difference?

the Audessy set up on the Denon is the next leg up being the "XT". Is this a huge noticeable difference or will the Marantz set up sound just as good?

they will be connected to a Cambridge Audio DVD player, SKY HD, apple TV and a 40" Toshiba TV

    B&W 601 fronts, 600 rears and LCR600 centre

    thanks

To be honest your speaker really deserve better amplification to get anywhere near the best from them. Unless you really need a slimline receiver then I would not bother with the Marantz as in my experience they tend to underperform compared to their price. A similar priced conventional sized receiver will tend to sound better for the same money.

Thanks for your response. I am a little tight on space. The denon amplifier would leave me with about a inch above it, but open to the front and back so should be ok for any heat issues. Any other suggestions?

What is your budget? What would be your absolute max?
Would you be willing to go secondhand?

Don't really want to spend more than 300, and wouldn't rule out secondhand, but I seem to be cursed with electrical goods and rely on warranties!

I picked up a Denon 1909 AVRX1909 on eBay last week for £100, would seriously consider second hand, I am very impressed with the Audessy setup on the Denon, the surround performance is considerably better than the Yamaha RXV6030 it replaced. With a budget of £300 you could also look at the AVRX2000 which is £299 new.

Thanks, but it appears the 2000 is taller, which takes it within a cm of the top of my cabinet, so possibly not enough room to ventilate
