Has anyone else heard or read about this? Marantz will take in your cd63kis and for £1000 and a month they will basically remanufacture it by hand with absolutely the best components they can get and tweak it to within an inch of the life of cd itself..... one magazine I saw this on was exceptionally complementary, something along the lines of 'the least cd like cd player' they had ever heard.... damn shame i sold mine

Much as I love my daughter, I don't think I'll spend that sort of money on the one I bought from you to see if the upgrade is as good as they say :) And would it sound as good as my vinyl??

    Brian

PS. Any links in case I change my mind ;)

Yea I saw that in a mag too, I doubt that I'll be sending mine, it may sound good but a copper fronted player may look out of place in my rack, and just think of the finger prints.

Now if they did a package CD 63KI2s and PM66SE KIs amp I may think about sending mine off.

Did you read the part where KI said people keep asking him for an original 63KIs even ten years after they came out. Well that means the value of mine has just shot up

try selling it and I dont think you'll find that is the case :(

    Brian,

No links im afraid, it is just something I had read about and heard through word of mouth..... cant imagine it would rival a good vinyl deck! You better hope your daughter isnt reading this, ive found reaction to innocent comments increases exponentially at exam time!

Its a sort of wind up.
Ken Ishiwata offered to modify David Price's CD94 (vv old) but for reasons too long and involved it was damaged BER. Ken, then as a conciliatry gesture performed this one off mod to a CD63 as a replacement for that unit. Price then asked if it would be possible to review and showcase the unit in HiFi World. Ken agreed on the condition that the conditions for the public asking for a similar unit were so pointless (£1000 and a wait of at least three months) that is was thought that nobody would bother. Sorry to say that there will only ever be two of these things.

It costs too much, and who wants their cd player to look like an expensive French frying pan?

I had one for a while, but prefered the sound of the CD17 (not everyone likes it) some say the CD17 KI sig is the one to get. After that.........how much have you got?

Im starting on a project to upgrade an older Marantz CD80 (champagne finish  ). A few capacitors here, some op amps there and possibly a new clock, sprinkle of magic dust and hope it doesnt go tits up  Its a project, promises fantastic sound and every DIY Audio forum raves about it, they would sell their children to get hold of a good one and luckily.

Happened to show it to someone who was buying my turntable and he immediately offered me £100 more than I paid for it.

In addition to the DIY route, there are also various firms which will tweak your CD player, obviously DIY is cheaper if you have the skills.

There'a a user on the ZeroGain forums who had his CD63Mk-II KI Sig modified, he said it was awesome. Not sure if it was £1,000 awesome though.

Its in a copy of HiFi world edited by David Price. I have the latest issue and Marantz have said they will start doing the DP upgrade.

Some (not me :D ) would argue a STANDARD CD63 would better a £2000 Naim.
Of course that can change when you add a £2000 XPS power supply

For 4 pages of biased,tongue-in-cheek nonsense click the link :)

I only paid £20 for my standard CD63. It's astounding value for the £20, but I'm not daft enough to say it's better than a Naim! :D

Having listened to a CDXII,202/200 into <insert whatever they call their new floorstander> and the annoying way that very low bass and extended treble (air?) seem to absent I wouldn't be so sure

Of course,it's all in fun :)
