Marantz & Dynaudio

Hi, I have stereo and surround setup with Marantz PM7001 KI, Onkyo TX-SR706 with Monitor Audio RX spk and sw REL T2.
I would like to put two separate systems, Onkyo with MA and REL and Marantz with...
I saw used, in very good condition Dynaudio Contour 1.8 MK2 spk (~800e).
How would Marantz PM7001 KI match with Dynaudio Contour 1.8 MK2? Thx....

Hi

Let me get this straight as the post is slighlty confusing
The marantz and Onkyo are sharing the same fronts MA RX (which rx?) which you would like to split into 2 separate systems - yes?

If so, how are they doing that at the mo, via a switch of some kind or using pre-outs from the onkyo to the Marantz?

What are you hoping to achieve?

I also have the PM7001Ki and using it with Acoustic Energy Neo 3. I tried it with the MA BR5, but preferred the AE/marantz sound. I can't comment on how it will sound with the Dynaudio Contour's as i've never heard them, but reckon it would sound good with a fair amount of speakers.
That just my opinion though

You are right, I am using front pre-out from Onkyo to Marantz for surround. Fronts are RX2.
I had BR5 but RX2 are much better.
I listened Marantz PM8200 with Dynaudio Contour S 1.4 and it was excellant but not 7001 KI with 1.8 MK2.

So you have good a basis to go by there but that's no guarantee that it would hold true thoughout the ranges as you know, otherwise you wouldn't be asking:).
Are you able try before you buy? I realise, being used, could be difficult to do if time, distance and /or an unwilling seller is a factor, but worth asking as its a sure fire way on knowing if its pleasing to your ears as that's what matters most

Had to do a little research on the Dynaudio's as i know of them, but not much about them. Well rated in the industry, quality and suppliers of driver to many known brands, Cello and Totem to name a couple. The 1.8 MK2 was around £2.2k when new and going by the spec and reviews, very formidable and have to be at that price. This suggest that an amp a class above the 7001ki would probably get better results from them, or a lower class of speakers may be better matched with the 700ki. Just mu opinion though.

The 1.8 MK2 are apparently much sought after on the s/h market and i would expect them to sound better than the RX2's you currently have. They are getting on, but if well looked after, should still do the job and properly too. So if you want them, go for it. If not to your liking, sell them on or think about changing the amp.

Out of interested how does the RX2 sound with the 700ki?

Problem with try is that 1.8 MK2 are on the other side of my country.

7001 KI with RX2 and REL T2 ( I use that sw always) is just more than fine. Very balanced sound, natural voice, clean strong bass (with T2) and very pleasant HF. Then in couple of month I will move to bigger room and have an idea of new set of stereo speakers. I'll see what to do....

Bummer :(

With a bigger room (how much bigger?) The RX2's may come up short, even with the sub. Is time of the essence with the 1.8 Mk2? if not and it being available after you move, then you could see if the the RX2/T2 can do job in the bigger room and then buy the 1.8 MK2 if not. Nice thought, but I seriously doubt they would be still available at that time.

However, Since time is most probably short, I personally would take a punt at the 1.8 MK2. As i see it, in the bigger room, I doubt it be any worse than the RX2 will be and i where it is currently, which to you sounds very good.

Heck, even if i could wait, with your situation as it is with cash ready to buy s/h speakers that have a good chance of matching my amp, i would still get them, and sort the 'do i, don't i like it bit afterwards'. But that's just me tho.

Bigger room is twice as much (15sqm to 30). I'll try to contact that seller.
Too bad nobody here tried Marantz with Dynaudio.
