Marantz DV9600 multi region

Hi

i live in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, and own a DV9600 DVD player in Region 2. Ideally i would like the dvd player to be made multi-region but all the local dealers dont seem to be able to help. Is there a retailer out there who can help.

i believe it requires a software update via the RS port on the back but apparantly it needs to be done "professionally".

i have done upgrades myself on a dvdo scaler - isnt it the same principle - so why the cloak and dagger stuff - why not issue the update file?

anyhow, if it has to go into a shop maybe they can update the firmware as well

any ideas who can help?

The reason why it is not issued publically and a lot of dealers can't/won't do it is that if it is not done correctly it will result in a completely non functional machine which according to Marantz is not repairable easily or cheaply.
