For anyone out there with a Marantz DV4300, here is the hack to enable PAL progresssive scan (as well as NTSC progressive scan which is there as standard). Have included the multi region code for completeness as well.

To set the region
1. OPEN THE TRAY
2. PRESS SETUP
3. PRESS 1-6 FOR EACH REGION, 9 IN ALL
4. PRESS 1111
5. PRESS PAUSE/STEP
6. PRESS SHUFFLE
7. PRESS NEXT

To set PAL Progressive Scan
1) ENSURE PROGRESSIVE SCAN IS DEACTIVATED IN THE SETUP MENU.

2) PLACE AN NTSC DISC IN THE MACHINE AND PLAY MOVIE.

3) WHEN MOVIE IS PLAYING SELECT PROGRESSIVE SCAN IN SETUP MENU
(SOME DISCS REQUIRE THAT THE PLAYER IS IN STOP MODE TO SELECT PROGRESSIVE SCAN).

4) PLAY MOVIE AGAIN FOR 30 SEC OR MORE.

5) REMOVE NTSC DISC AND PLAY A PAL DISC STRAIGHT AWAY (DONT TURN OFF PLAYER BETWEEN DISCS).

6) DV4300 IS NOW PROGRESSIVE SCAN FOR NTSC AND PAL

N.B. SELECTING PROGRESSIVE SCAN BEFORE PLAYING NTSC DISC WILL NOT DIRECT SIGNAL CORRECTLY FOR PAL

N.B. ONCE DONE THE MACHINE WILL REMAIN PROGRESSIVE SCAN FOR BOTH FORMATS.

Now I've done this, and it appears to work no problems. However, my Philips 30PF9975 will still only accept the NTSC progressive scan signal: the picture goes juddery and off centre when I select PAL progressive. Any thoughts on this: refresh rate conflicts?
