    I'm in a bit of a dilemma.

I currently have a Marantz CD17 MK11 KI Signiture and a Sony DVP-NS955v DVD/SACD player. The new price of both units was 1300 pounds when new.

I'm thinking ... just thinking .... of selling both these units and purchasing a Marantz DV6500 (600 pounds new). I love my CD player though, so it slightly hard to make a decision.

My thinking is as follows :

    > I'll some extra money after selling
    > I'll have a single box doing the work of my current two
    > I'll get DVD-A capability - which I do not have at present
    > I'll get better SACD playback on the Marantz than the Sony

My disadvantage would be in the CD playback, which would more than likely be worse. Is it there big a difference though?

I think the DV9500 would be your best bet if you don't want to lose too much quality when it comes to cd playback.

Just a quick question - how much would you want for the Marantz CD17?

I think the question you should be asking is: 'How much do I value the sound of my CDs, and how many DVD-A discs am I likely to buy in the future?' The thing is, you might not notice much difference at all, in which case, brilliant! You might notice a huge difference and hate it. Demo the kit if you can.

Do you hear a different (less) sound when playing cd's while your cd-player is digital connected instead of analogue? If not, then you have a good receiver/amplifier which can do the job and you could follow your plan.

(My personal opinion, though: I wouldn't sell the Marantz, but probably buy another DVD-player over some time.)
