There is not much to go on with these upcoming Pre/Pros, most of the details were leaked from a Chinese Dealer Presentation apparently but the range of Denon and Marantz Receivers and Pre/Pros should be announced soon apparently.

I am only interested in the Pre/Pros myself so will start with the more solid details of the Marantz 8805

      • 13.2 channel preamplifier
      • 13.2 Channel decoding processing and pre-output
      • Dolby Atmos (7.1.6 or 9.1.4), DTS: X, Auro 3D built-in
      • New 2 ADI Griffin Lite
      • DSP Equipped with 32bit AKM4490 DAC decoder chip
      • 7 + 1 input / 3 output HDMI (3D / eARC)
      • HDCP2.2-HDMI2.0a
      • Support Audyssey MultEQ XT32 sound field calibration, Audyssey App support
      • WiFi, BT, AirPlay, RS232 and IP control
      • Internet radio, Phono
      • Marantz HDAM current feedback circuit
      • Copper chassis, toroidal transformer
      • Auro-3D (13.1) DTS Virtual: X (Upgraded)
      • Built-in wireless Multi Room HEOS
      • eARC, Dolby Vision, HLG
      • Support Audyssey Remote App (paid download)
Other leaked details are about the Denon AVC-X8500H Receiver. As there is also a Processer coming from Denon I expect the spec to be fairly similar to that shown on the slide below and the video. The big difference seems to be the HDMI 2.1 upgrade, so my only hope is that the Marantz will also get this with the spec is ratified sometime in 2018.

Prices I think are rumoured in the £3-5k bracket for the processors. Q1 2018 could be a nice time for an upgrade methinks, especially if the Emotiva RMC-1 actually makes an appearance too :)

AVC-X8500H: Denon introduces the first home...

FYI, rear panel is of the Marantz, front is the Denon Receiver.

What? HDMI 2.0a! not even 2.0b or 2.1
HDMI 2.1 spec was finalised and issued last month.

      No I didn’t.
HDMI 2.1 is supposedly coming in an upgrade as per the first post.
Just strange it’s not at least 2.0b on release.

It is early leaked info. I'd wait until something official comes out before jumping to any conclusions, either way :)

Full details on their respective sites:

      AVC-X8500H

      Marantz UK | AV8805

It looks like the rumoured Denon Pre/Pro may have just been a rumour then which is disappointing but I guess the two brands need to differentiate. Still, the Marantz seems to tick a lot of boxes. I can see no reason the Marantz won't also get the firmware update for HDMI 2.1 so on the face of it, looks like a nice reasonably futureproofed Processor.

The decision for me now is whether I can live with Audyssey (even with the App it is never going to be as good as Dirac). I also have to weigh up whether SQ on the Anthem, Arcam or Emotiva will be significantly better.

Latest news I have seen is that the RMC-1 is slated for release end of March but it could be a lot longer to arrive in the UK. Not sure I want to wait that long.

      Decisions, decisions :)

RRPs are $3799 for Denon Receiver and $4500 for Marantz Processor. Release for both is Q1 2018 with the Denon expected in a few weeks and the Marantz a little later.

Can someone explain to me why the AV8805 with its 15.2 XLR outputs only can do 13.2 sound???

My main concern is the quality of its hi-fi stereo performance as I would consider that its surround sound capabilities are pretty much a given with "Denon". My present AVC-A11XV gives extremely good stereo sound quality and that was one of the main reasons I purchased it about eleven to twelve odd years ago and it got a cracking review in "Hi-Fi News & RR on that. But obviously I have no "Atmos" or "DTS:X" and it would be preferable for me to get the lossless sound via the HDMI inputs / outputs because of far less cabling, such as the eight analogue leads on one of my BD players plus the other BD connections.

Size wise it's virtually on par with my present AV amp so that's not an issue as it sits on the very top of one of my hi-fi racks. Either way i'm in no rush but I will be interested in the various reviews over here in the UK on both its surround sound abilities but more on its straight hi-fi stereo reproduction. Apart from anything else to wait a little while usually means that it will either drop in price a bit or dealers will be more amenable to do a deal at some later point as i'm sure this baby will be in and around the £3k to £4k mark when it is released.

As regards to "THX" certification that is no big deal now as has been discussed before on these forums, plus on my 11XV (which has "THX" Ultra 2 certification) that only operates on DVD's lossy sound and not the external in / out that I am connected to for BD lossless sound plus the other connections. Anyway I don't play that many DVD's now.

Probably has a separate 2 channel stereo output?

      Edit, sub outputs

So that you can still wire 15 channels, and pick whichever 13 best suits the sound format you’re listening to. They could have just given us 13 outputs, but that would be less flexible.

So you can wire for 9.x.6, and choose whether to play in 9.x.4, or 7.x.6, as your mood takes you.
