    Hi all,

Looking for video up conversion and a change from denon, would the Marantz 7400 be a worthy relacement of my denon 3802?

    any other thoughts welcome

I'm thinking of upgrading my 3802 also Crispy, although i'm not 100% certain its worth it.

I've been looking at the Denon 2805 and some of the Pioneers as a replacement. I've previously owned a couple of Marantz amps and can happily recommend them (i've not used the model your looking at though). They are much better in stereo than Denons in my opinion.

If you do upgrade let us know how you got on (as i think we've got the same dvd player also)!

well the denon 7400 can be had for £350 and is said to be better all round than the 2805 but is it better than the 3802? I don't wanna downgrade and my amp is already on ebay

In my very humble opinion, the SR7400 is a better sounding amp than the 3805 for stereo, and has a nicer sound to it for dialogue and musical moments in movies, much clearer. The 3805 counters this with greater slam, and designer name chipsets.

So yes, the SR7400 'COULD' be an improvement, but it depends on what improvement you are looking for?

To be honest, the biggest improvement you will gain is by going the processor/power amp route, as the SR7400 will be more of a sideways step, although a very good sideways step :D and at £350 from hiway hifi (believe you have to phone them as it is not advertised on their website), is an absolute bargain!!!

    DOH!

yeah anyway, the only reason I'm changing is that I would like component up-conversion and better sounding music, the change of ams is only gonna cost me about £40 anyway so I assume its worth it

    ???

    Good luck.

It's a great bit of kit and should provide loads more power to your Ruarks than you got from the Denon. :)

Another "big-up" for the 7400 here - a lovely piece of kit which will withstand at least one speaker upgrade. I've had mine nearly a year and it hasn't put a foot wrong with either music or video sources. I won't even contemplate upgrading until after both the visual and speaker side have been sorted out.

Yes the 7400 can drive 6 ohm speakers, with 130 W into all channels. That's enough power to terrify my delicate constitution anyway .
