Could anyone give me their opinions about these receivers as I am looking to buy but can't decide. I know the Marantz has Pro Logic II whilst the Sony has a DSP which is very similar. Any thoughts?

I had a Sony 1070 and now have a Marantz 6200. The Sony is more flexible and better looking but the Marantz plays movies and music much better.

Could you please be a little more specific? What do you mean by playing music and movies better?

I chose the Sony over the Marantz :)

The decoders in the Marantz are much better giving a much more realistic soundstage to movies. I also prefer the sound with music as the Sony seemed to be much harsher in tone.

I gave the Sony an extended demo of about four months before I sold it.
