Hi,

I sold all my home cinema and projector kit about 6 months ago - the only thing I didnt get rid of was a Marantz 4300 dvd.
Its been sat around the office for 6 months doing nothing so I dusted it off and tried to use it - the problem being I've left the unit in Component mode and cant see the menu to change back to scart :(

I no longer have access to anthing with component inputs on so am looking for a factory reset procedure, if anyone knows of one? Googling isnt bringing much back at this point.

Thanks in advance,

Peter.

Hook the DVD player up via Scart to your tv/display.

Play any disc, let it run for a short while (say 30 secs to a minute).

When the disc is playing press and hold the stop button on the remote control for approx. 3-5 seconds: this should disable the progressive scan/component output and bring up the set up menu on screen. Once in the setup menu you can then reset the output to RGB scart.

Let me know how you get on, I'm sure there are a few other things you can do, need to dig out my 'notes' from the loft.

Hmm, remote doesnt seem to work - if powering on with ff and skip or play pressed puts the unit into self destruct, I did that too :(

Oh: the faulty remote could be a problem.

I haven't tried the same procedure using the fascia controls: perhaps you could try that?

The other way to do it would be to either borrow a remote or lend the player to someone else for them to 'unlock it' for you.

Where abouts in the country are you: if anywhere near Worcester/W.Midlands I would be pleased to help with either the lend of a remote or a quick 'hook-up' of equipment.

Hi,

Thanks for your help - I'll recheck the remote tonight, it was working before and I changed batteries, maybe loose terminals.
Tried the units controls direct, no joy.

Dont know anyone with another Marantz dvd nearby - and I'm in East Yorkshire, but work near Birmingham every now and then.

Cheers,

Peter.

I think this is going to need a working remote!

If you are really struggling to get your remote working we could try the following:

1 Get hold of/borrow a suitable working remote from your local Hi-fi etc. shop and/or someone on these forums and try the procedure with that.

2 Take it to the shop where you bought it from (or any suitable specialist store) and ask them to unlock it, if necessary feigning surprise when the remote doesn't work

3 I'll post my remote to you, you try the procedure, and return the remote once completed.

4 You post your dvd player to me, and I'll try the 'unlock' procedure in my set up, and return to you once completed.

1 is the least cost and least (combined) risk option for both of us. 2 involves some cheek on your part and a reasonable relationship with the shop. 3 is very low risk for you, slightly higher for me in that I risk losing a perfectly good remote (not that I don't trust you, I just don't know you) and slightly more costly (postage either way). 4 will be expensive for both (2 lots of pricey postage) plus a high risk of damage in transit (both ways) as well as a risk to you of losing your DVD player (since you don't know me).

Surely there must be someone out there with a DV4300 who lives nearer to you than I do??

What do you think??

Hi,

IT WORKS!! :)

During my ham fisted bashing of the player, I knocked the Remote toggle at the back of the unit to be external, rather than internal - hence remote now works and so does the unlocking procedure :)

As you've saved a few uids worth of DVD froom being binned/going out of the window I'll send you a virtual beer token, to be redeemed if your ever up near Beverley or I see you near Dudley/Smethwick!

Thanks again,

Peter.

( and no, nobody else has a 4300 nearby, in fact electricity is still seen as the Devils work round here ;) )

Good news, glad you got it sorted and all is now working.

Still a good DVD player IMHO, though I will look to upgrade mine around Xmas, probably with another Marantz.

Next time I'm in Leeds I'll enjoy the virtual beer token.
