    hello again! can you help?

I have just bought a 5200 for £400 from richer sounds and am wondering (as i am very lame with av gear) is this enough better than the 4200 (£269) to warrant the extra £130? the 6.1 is matrix and i dont realy need the extra power.
(the demo-monster made me buy it:) )

take it back or keep it?

or where can i find an eye bleeding deal that richer sounds will match on either one to make my mind up for me?

    cheers

Take it back. I got mine for £360 from a hifi shop. You can do far better than £400!!!!

6.1 is matrix on DD anyway. You are only missing out on DTS 6.1 discrete (and ne06 and cs5.1 but they are comparable to DPL2).

I compared these 2 and considered the 5200 to be more flexible with better options for connectivity.

The extra power of the 5200 isn't really worth 130 quid, it is only 20 wpc extra dn this makes even less difference when you consider that the measurement is not linear.

If you aren't interested in 6.1 then I would suggest getting he SR4200, it might even drop in price further cos of the 3400 coming out in September.

As for connectivity the 4200 more than satisfies my needs, I guess if you want to plug in a 5 or 6 channel source then the 5200 would be better.

Take it back kicking and screaming!

I got an SR6200 from avland.co.uk for £380 a few weeks back, but they are all sold out now.

What about the new 4300 and 5300 which have EX/ES Discrete and not Matrix like the 4200 and 5200. They are due next month for £340 and £440.

Most comapnies run the web site as a different company. Therefore what you see on the web will be cheaper (less overheads). Richer sounds do make this clear, that they may not match web prices

Jit, do you have any more details on the 5300. I only have 5.1 and the sofa is against the wall so no chance of the 6. ES/EX doesn't really bother me at the mo so the 5200 looks fine. Is there anthing else I would be missing out on?

You will be missing out on DTS ES discrete the 5200 provides matrix. DD EX is matrix anyway which the 5200 already does. You will get CS5.1 & DTS Neo6 which are different specs for what DPL2 offers (most people say neo6 is not hot but CS5.1 is better than DPL2).

If your sofa is against the wall consider KEF Custom install if you are allowed to hack into the plaster (you can cover them in wallpaper matching fabric!!) for the back channel

Oh I 'll survive on the promise of a pint on the internet freeway some time.

Anyway, what speakers are you getting with your Marantz 6200; I've gone for Missions: M73 fronts, M7C2 centre, M7DS rears, (M7as sub later). I also have a Tosh 510 DVD and Loewe Vitros 32". All in black, looks cool!
