I've read some reports on this forum about people not being 100% with their new LCD TV purchase. Well a lot of this is down to the quality of the source, as has been discussed on many occasions.

Well the antidote to this is to get a source to really make your LCD shine! I have just bought a Sharp LC26GA4E and in preparation I obtained a couple of WMV-HD titles from the US. These are transfers of some IMAX stuff into 720P and 1080P, they also include a second DVD which is in standard defintion. You run this on your PC of course and I must say the results are quite stunning - even at the 'lower' 720P resolution. The titles I obtained were Amazon and Coral Reef Adventure and are probably familiar with a lot of you already. I hope there will be some feature films in this format soon. It as least gives you a foretaste of what is possible. You can download previews of this material from the Microsoft site.

Try these titles and whet your appetite!

So Hi-def stuff looks good on a 26 inch TV then? I always had the impression that to truely take advantage of hi def material you need a big screen tv. Been contemplating going for a 26/32 inch LCD screen which supports Hi-def but been warery of the lack of screen size to take advantage of Hi-def material.

Well it's all about how far you sit from your TV. I have mine in my "den" near where I use the computer, so I'm only about 1.2 metres from the set. At that distance it does mean that you see what is lacking in the resolution of, say, Freeview or Sky. Normal DVD is still pretty good though.

its all about viewing distance on my Sharp 32 from about 3 feet away I can start to see inperfections of a DVD's transfer, especially on edges, with 1080i from the same distance the image and edges are smoother then a kashmirian codpiece

    There already are:

    high-def.de

Just click on shop. They are very good at delivering to the UK. Not a huge range available, but some good films nonetheless. All are WMV-HD encoded on DVD-ROM and come with German and English 5.1 audio tracks (though WMV 5.1, not DD/DTS)

There is a thread with more info here
