I thought people may wish to hear about my current experience with the JVC LT-17E31. Although it seems like a great screen it has a major dead pixel problem. I bought 2 last week from John Lewis (price matching Sound & Vision). One seems fine (I hope its not just that I havent spotted the dead pixels yet) but the other had 6 small green dead pixels. So back to JL I went, no problem to swap (once checked), got another out of the stock room and more dead pixels. I didnt have time to check another so took one on my out. Got it home - dead pixels including a bright red one in the centre of the screen. Back it went for one more try (at this point JL said they just wanted to give me the cash back becuase they couldnt just keep opening boxes). I insisted on one more try, got it home and hey presto MORE DEAD PIXELS. Is there no quality control at JVC. 4 screens with dead pixels. Looks like its a refund for me.

    2 lessons here:

    1. These screens are not acceptable.
    2. Buy from JL if possible - Id have been gutted if Id have bought mail order and had to keep sending back these things.

That seems very strange and is possibly a very dodgy batch (or a dropped palatte?).

Just to provide the good experience balancing - I bought one about a month ago and its fine - as is a friend's. Having said that its good to know that JL provided good service in this case and well worth bearing in mind.

I suspect, with all the bad JL Hitatchi experience on the board, that they are better with "obvious" faults like dead pixels, then with less obvious ones.

Will be interested to hear what happens as I've got another friend who wants one.

BTW - could I ask which branch of JL it was?

Quicker for you to shop at bluewater!:D I have sold a few of these, no probs so far. I have yet to work out who makes the panel for them, but my bet is Samsung.

Has anyone had any problems with the speakers on their set? I seem to get occasional buzzing when the volume is turned down low, and there is also a buzzing noise when I turn the backlight down.

    Great tv otherwise though :).
