Saturday night I upgraded the forums to the very latest software. The move was prompted by a possible security issue highlighted here. (Since resolved).
This upgrade adds many new features to the forums, most noticeably to the search which is now much faster and presents you with suggested keywords.
The new search facility has been developed by Canadian Floren Munteanu who has worked incredibly hard and developed, with a little input from me, a brand new search facility for vBulletin which should take the world of vBulletin forum owners by storm. It's pioneering in its techniques in using the Sphinx product and AVForums users will be the first to benefit by way of of noticeably faster searches which will improve the speed of the forums generally.

There is, however a 'but'. With the new install, there is at least one example of missing functionality, and it's a biggie, I'm afraid folks. For the time being, the trader rating system is disabled. The ratings are still there, but until a new coder re-writes the system for the latest version of the software, we will have to do without the ability to give ratings. Sorry.
There will be other examples which will no doubt crop up in the coming hours.

Hi all,

I will post soon all changes/enhancements related to Search.
With any new version, some bugs might make surface. Thank you for your patience and support to identify them.

How long does it usually take to re-write the system :smashin:, just a friendly question, not wanting to come across as pushy :)

And any news on the culprit person/software/etc? got any leads ?

Have the Social groups been disabled?

Also, is there any chance that the Casino feature will return??

It seems that embedded images are displaying full sized in posts, rather than being made smaller with the "the image has been resized" banner.

Unfortunately it could be weeks.

No, social groups get a major new chunk of functionality. Yes I will look at reviving the casino and arcade. More details soon.

Will be fixing that.

Me neither and me too. I couldn't, however, allow one small (however important) item of functionality to delay the upgrade.

There are some posts missing in the 'my post' section. The last one is stated as being last night right before shutdown, but then there is a gap back to the third of this month. I'm online pretty much everyday so I know there are some missing.

Its not a big deal but I thought it worth a mention, although it does mean I'll have to manually search for threads ive responded to.

Not sure what improvements have been made to the search engine, but i just tried a sction search using the exact title and author and the search couldnt find it .

Oh and Ive noticed intermittent missing posts in my post history all over the place which is strange.

FYI :hiya:

I was able to get into the "social groups" earlier, but can't now. In fact, when I was on earlier, I couldn't really see the new facilities/upgrades. To get onto the groups, I had to jump through a couple of hoops ... and then, it opened up on the very first page and I had to scroll down and select "last" to get to the latest posts. There is talk that the new facility means that we are now able to start new threads within each group. But what's the point of that? If we have, say the "Chelsea football" social group, why would we need to start a new thread discussing Chelsea within that? We are unlikely to start a new thread about Cashley Coles' latest shinanigans ... not for the 3 or 4 people that contribute. With the limited members in the social groups and the fast pace /change in the footie ones in particular, there's no longevity for new threads and, IMO is just a waste of space.

However, I WOULD JUST BE GLAD TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE GROUPS AT THIS POINT! :( :)

Hi Stuart,

I have just done a search for my posts and the results are bringing up posts from other people, and only 15 results when I have made more posts than that.

I think there maybe something up with the code, I have tried searching by post and by thread but the same incorrect results appear, some of them I have never posted in.??

Thx

Hargs

Just tried to access the Liverpool FC social group, and IE couldnt find the page.

clicked on, Social Groups > liverpool football thread > then the second link to Liverpool football thread doesnt work, 404 error.

Anything that can be done at this end? or, is it a case waiting for the inital issues of the new software to be ironed out?

As long as its sorted before the small kick about at Anfield tommorrow night.....

not sure if it's related but getting error page when doing most forum searches.
It seems to only happen on searches of two words or more for me...

An error occurred while performing the search query:

Stuart,
the missing feedback is a biggie for me. I have been looking to purchase some Apple computer equipment from the forums and now - without feedback have no idea of the history that I am dealing with - and unfortunately a collection in person is not really an option when commuting to Munich weekly :(

You say the information is still available - could this not be grabbed and embedded in a page so we can look up??
