Watched the 10 episodes over 2-3 days last week and thought it was a well acted performance and compelling viewing, not one for the action aficionados but a well crafted story, like Cas says unmissable.

Absolutely in agreement with you Cas, I thought this was superb. McDowell plays her part so well, so believably, she just blew me away.

The series struck quite a few emotional notes with me. You wouldn't know it from my gear list, but I grew up dirt poor. Had an 'out there' mother just like that, and have family members I feel bound to by their own inability to sort their lives out.

All of Maid rang true. Not played for melodrama or filled with awkwardly mercurial and inconsistent characters. I was very touched by it, and was glued to my seat start to finish.

Thanks Cas, we watched the first last night and really enjoyed it, glad to hear it doesn’t go downhill.

Five episodes in and I'm conflicted by the character. Sometimes I think what are you doing get a grip such as the episode around Thanksgiving and then the house getting a whole clean with the news story attached. And who would stop the car on the verge to look for a toy when you can clearly get one in a dollar shop.

On another level it shows the social issues in America and how close everyone is to destitute poverty with little help from the state.

It’s brilliance personified. Just wow. We are 8 episodes in and just the 2 left to go.
Just amazing. The performances are off the scale. Margaret Qualley is just stunning in her role.
Easily the best series we have watched recently. It’s a hard watch no mistake. Special shout to the 3 year old who plays the daughter. She is heartbreakingly wonderful.
This is unmissable
10/10 and more

Wait until you watch a couple more. I get what you say but she’s so invested in her daughter it’s easy to see the mistakes she makes are normal for her.

Just finished the first episode and TBH I found most lead characters rather annoying. So far it's got all the makings of an American equivalent of a Ken Loach politically driven sob story.

Update - halfway through episode 2 and it's all gone a bit 'daft' in the open house scene. I'm afraid it's like watching the horror victim continuing to run down the forest road when being chased by a car.

9? Not a chance.

Thanks Cas for the review.
Started watching it last evening after reading your thoughts, went to bed some 3 hours later than usual because of it :)
Didn't really expect Netflix to put out something this good nowadays...

Thank you Cas for exceptional review. Always enjoy reading these reviews despite my opinion.

So watched it and listened in Polish audio with English Subtitles yesterday. Got upto episode 4 so far. Will continue this evening.

Now my Brother is a prankster and he changed my Netflix language to Polish with English subtitles just before he left. So I thought it was Polish made production by Netflix. I was a little tipsy and didn’t work out lip syn out via Polish audio language.

Obviously I will listen in original English this evening.

Well i plan on changing wifi password next time i he comes over and pretend it is his phone with the connection issue.

Binged watched this over the last few days and thought it was brilliant. Very well acted by the main characters and some compelling drama. Really difficult viewing in places mind.

For me this is why the show worked so well - we all wanted to say to Alex, "WHAT are you doing?". But it shows the human and emotional element in domestic abuse which definitely shaped Alex's choices.

Finished last night, great show, while I did enjoy Andie’s performance, Margaret’s was fantastic, she carried the show.
Interesting to see Margot Robbie exec produced, did she get Margaret involved while working on Once upon a time in Hollywood ?
I see chat presuming a season 2 and while the story could continue, not sure it’s a good idea, S1 was perfect as a stand-alone.

Gotta say, that was excellent. Absolutely excellent. Honest, relatable, believable, upsetting; but also entertaining, funny, heartwarming and beautifully presented. Its also balanced and human without ever being preachy or woke or lingering in misery porn. Much like Netflix's Marriage Story, it presents life, relationships and people as they really are; messy, complicated, flawed and human. A world class and revelatory performance from Margaret Qualley who (like her character) is destined for great things. She is a brilliant actress. Able to convey 90% of her performance just through nuances in her reactions and expressions. Also a stand out for me was Anika Rose as Regina- what a fantastically written character.

9/10

Best thing I've seen from Netflix since The Queens Gambit (which I still maintain is unassailable entertainment perfection).

Netflix, while continuing to disappoint with its movie offerings, still knocks it out of the park with its mini-series.
