    Hello All,

I’m putting together a highly musical home theater / music system anchored by Magnepan speakers. My front mains are MG-1.6QR’s, my center is the CC3, and my side and rear surrounds are the MC1’s.

I’m looking for a good subwoofer, or possibly a pair of subwoofers, that will do movies justice, but without sacrificing speed, dexterity, tonal accuracy, etcetera on music... and which will blend seamlessly with my 1.6QR's. I'm more interested in accuracy than I am "boom".

I’d love to hear from Maggie owners regarding what subwoofers they’ve had good results with when paired with their Magnepan’s.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I own maggies but can't help much as I've not tried them with a subwoofer yet not even the XLS200 that I have as I know it's not up to the level for maggies. I have however heard some subs in other systems and can't think of a better one than a REL ST sub. Having looked at your website you probably already know that though.

I have 1.6QR's which I will shortly be moving to my HT room. Presently I've
got MC1's for front L/R, a pair of MMG-W's wired in series for the center
channel and MMG-W's for the rear L/R in my home theater. I'm using a
Rel Strata III and just purchased a second Strata III to use as a pair
(though it's not hooked in yet). I think you can see that I greatly admire
the Rel Strata line. I live in the USA where the Strata series has been
discontinued, and they're almost impossible to find on the used market.
The second unit I just purchased from a gentleman in the UK.

The Strata III blends nicely with Magnepan speakers, I recommend it
    highly.

    Hi,
The REL Quake can be a good solution.
I am the proud owner of a set MG12/QR Magnepan's and I was
searching for a proper solution to add some real lower frequencies
    to my Maggie's
After a long search, I stumbled into an advertisement from a guy
who sold his REL Quake... I thought "Why not" ?
So I went for a drive that took one and a half hour and after careful
consideration I decided to give it a go... (it took me € 300 for this second hand Sub and € 35 for petrol costs).
A day later I found out after calling the shop that this guy bought it only five months ago.. can you believe it !?
Anyway, I gave this little black (Brittex) box a place next to my right Maggie, and gave it a try.
Simply wonderful ! no more, no less. :)
So this is my input, try the Quake, guess you wont be disappointed.

Good luck on your quest !

The Era Sub 10. Powerful, small, and very musical. Designed by Michael Kelly of Aerial Acoustics fame to equal REL at a better price. I have one and it is awesome.

There was an article many years ago in either HiFi Answers or HiFi News about using Celestion SL6000 subwoofers very successfully with some Maggie's
