I bought the Special Edition a few months ago and was very disappointed. It was a film that I enjoyed when it first came out but I didn't think that it had stood the test of time very well.

In view of the recently deleted thread on "rubbish dvds" I will add that this is only my opinion and I fail to see how adding a DTS soundtrack will improve it.

    Ian,
The Special Edition of Mad Max,does it have the dubbed American accent soundtrack in 5.1 or is it only the original Australian soundtrack? The reason i ask is that the first time i seen this film in 83 it had the dubbed soundtrack and since then any time i heard the original Australian i thought it sounded terrible. I already own the mono version and would like a 5.1 but only in the American soundtrack.

It's got both versions on it. I watched the original Australian version then listened to bits with the dubbed American soundtrack afterwards and had a good laugh as it sounded silly.

Only Mel Gibson and Mrs Max kept their original voices with all other actors being sanitized for the American market.

The dubbed version was dolby 2.0 on the R1 special edition.

Mad Max was extremely useful to me as it instilled in me a somewhat aggressive style of driving, which I must say has stood me in great stead when faced with the idiots on the roads these days.
Essential viewing as soon as passing one's driving test.
".....last of the V8 interceptors....", yeah.....

Presumably then it's required viewing for all BMW owners.
