Saw some woman on bbc3 the other night with an orchestra (forgotten which one) and at first I thought she was just singing. On closer inspection, she was waving her hands through the air very carefully between two microphone type-things and producing a very strange electronic sound.

Anyone got ANY idea what this instrument is called?

(the program was about a famous hollywood composer who wrote music for dozens of famous movies. Forgotten his name, too.)

Memory clearly ain't what it used to be

    Thanks, Njal!

Shame the website doesn't really explain how it works, so I'll be asking Jeeves about it sometime today.

More on the theremin, and how it works, even how to build your own.
