You know when you record a MacroVision Protected movie from a DVD Player or PC onto a Video Casette, the picture comes out wrong, what would happen if I played the movie through a DVD Player and used a Video Capture Device on my PC to record it? Would there still be problems with the picture?

Also, what if I recorded from a DVD Player to a DVD Recorder? Same problems?

If you tried to record to a DVD-Recorder (Pan HS2) for example, it wouldn't let you, the recorder detects the DVD (protected media) and refuses to record.

I can only speak for my video capture setup, an ageing Matrox Rainbow Runner - which captures Macrovision video perfectly. In fact, if I run it in duplex mode, it strips Macrovision out of the signal before re-outputting it, enabling me to record a copy onto VHS. Not that I do this, of course.
