Need a macro lens for a Pentax K-X DSLR. This is my first experience with DSLR so need some advice please.

The camera will only be used in doors for dental photography most likely with a ring flash.

I have seen the Tamron lens on offer at Jessops. Tamron 70-300mm Lens for Pentax + Jessops UV 62mm Filter - Jessops - Lenses

What are peoples view on this lens? Is it a good lens to go for?

Any other good lens people can recommend that would be suitable?

    Thanks.

No. The minimum focus distance is 1m in macro mode and it isn't a true 1:1 macro either.

The Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro has a minimum focus distance of ~30cm and the Pentax 50mm ~20cm.

I obviously know nothing about dental photography, but would imagine that the minimum focus distance would be important, you wouldn't want to have to have the camera 1m away from the subject?

Thanks. Went Jessops and like you said the one I linked to is incorrect. We tried out some proper 1:1 macro lens and this is what I understand we need something between 50 and 100mm.

At the moment searching around for the best price on a Sigma one. I see from your link Tamron also do a 90mm macro lens, thanks.

I have the Tamron 90mm on Sony mount, it is excellent and very well regarded. But you may wish to go for a 50mm for the shorter MFD.

Also when getting a ringflash ensure that you get the appropriate filter thread diameter size. But there are plenty of adapters to step-up/down the filter size.

    Good luck.

Has anyone bought a lense from Onestop Digital?

Camera Lenses :: Tamron :: Pentax Mount :: Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 Di Lens for Pentax - Onestop Digital

Seems the best price for the Tamron and the site states:

I have bought a lens from OSD, so have many people in the forums. Just make sure you have the cash available if you are stung for import duty/VAT. I didn't need to make a claim though. :smashin:

No idea what Tamron's warranty is like, so you may need to send it back to Hong Kong if there is a fault.
