macbook pro ps problem

My macbook pro has started to develop an intermittent problem. At times , now more often than not, the pwoer supply says it is not connected to the unit. The little lights on the cable do not come on. After some wiggling and bending i can make the thing start to charge. Sometimes the light stays green and the cable starts to get very hot, sometimes it behaves as it should and goes orange, then green when charged and the cable and connector do not get unusually hot. It appears to me that there must be a break in the cable near the connector although there is no sign of wear or damage at all.

My question is this....has anyone bought an aftermarket P.S. for their macbook pro? Apple are taking the xxxx asking £85 for a replacement. Mine is one of the L shaped magsafe connectors not the T shaped one, if that makes any difference. The macbook is probably 1.5-2yrs old.

thanks everyone

my question was whether anyone had actually bought a replacement. ....that unit will not work with a macbook pro as it is not large enough wattage. It will probably work with hutch macbook though

had a look at the suppliers on amazon and there are ones for my device. They seem to get very variable reviews..from "it's crap kncok off copy and broke after a week" to " it's exactly the same as an apple one but doesn't come in apple packing".....

Likewise for the MacBook Pro:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/iClever®-Replacement-MagSafe-Adapter-17-inch/dp/B006Q9MTR6/ref=pd_sim_ce_2

Reviews seem pretty favourable.

If it's still under AppleCare then get the power supply replaced. If not buy a genuine Apple power supply (priced at £65 not £85) Apple 85W MagSafe Power Adapter (for 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro) - Apple Store (UK)

I agree with this, for the sake of £35 on top of the cost of a knock off you'll get the proper thing that is guaranteed not to cause any damage to your Mac.

I've bought several copied power supplies and batteries for laptops (PCs not Macs) over the years and have seen a good few of them break well inside a year. One even went on fire and scorched a friends real wood floor (oops).

Don't forget that when you come to sell the Mac it'll sell much more easily with a proper charger too!
