My mac mini has developed a fault with (I believe) the dedicated GPU (see photo). It doesn't get past the boot up screen.

I personally don't have the time (or inclination) to want to try to fix this.

The spec of this machine is:
  • Mac Mini mid-2011
  • 2.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i7
  • 8GB RAM (2 x 4GB sticks)
  • 500GB hard drive
  • AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics processor

As far as I can tell, it's only the GPU that's causing problems, all the ports, wifi, bluetooth all work.

This is being sold as NOT WORKING and therefore no returns accepted, it might be right for someone who has the time and tools to attempt a fix. Note that as I couldn't get past the boot screen I have opened this up to get the drive out to recover data and then wipe it.

Please do ask questions if you're interested.

Have you tried booting with the SHIFT key held? This is known as SAFE BOOT...

I actually had not, I did to boot in to recover mode with CMD+R but that didn't work, would just get as far as displaying a grey screen and eventually rebooting.

Where are you based in London?
West London, around W12.

Thanks for the offer but not looking to post it due to weight, it would cost too much.

Yep, it is.
Thanks for the reply. Would you post at my cost? If so whats the best price you would be prepared to accept?

Thanks

I have the box but I'd have to buy some packaging materials, but sure, I can post at your cost.
I'm not sure what is a fair price, I thought £100 was, but feel free to make an offer :)

Hi ciderspace,

So sorry for slow reply. I'm not sure how much postage will cost, but what I can do is take the mac mini with me to work tomorrow and if the weather permits, I can visit the post office on my lunch break and get a quote on the postage and let you know.

Would that be ok?

Hi @ciderspace, so it'll cost me about £12 to post, which is more than I would like but it's better the Mini go to someone who might be able to do something with it instead of it collecting dust on my shelf. So happy to deal on £85 delivered if you are?

Please confirm you've understood that I believe there is a GPU fault (see screenshot) based on the research I've done online. I have opened the mini to get access to the drive and also wiped the drive after getting my data from it, thus there is no OS installed.

And received - thank you.
Not had a chance to plug in as yet but will do later and report back - am sure all is as described. Thanks again for a speedy service. I'll leave feedback later too.
