ok, i have got a few m4p tracks from the iTunes music shop and unlocked em into .m4a format so i can whack em on my SE W800i... they work fine but the tag information in not viewable...

the tag data is there in the file cuz iTunes can see em, and so can Quicktime, but Windows Media Player/My W800i etc. cant.

how do i get tag information to be viewable by non-apple stuff?

IMO the only way out is to convert them to mp3 or ogg, cause it's hardware fault not to recognize m4a file tags

Anyway, You are lucky that Your player plays those files...

You can add id3 to m4a in winamp, but what You described U've already done it, and player does not see it, right?

MP4 tags *are* ID3, so the fact that Windows Media Player and your player can't see them would seem to suggest that the conversion from m4p to m4a has not done the job properly.

    What did you use? Jhymn?

That's what Winamp shows in IDTag:
    m4a:

Don't know whether Your player is capable to display m4a tags
