    Hi folks
I received my m&k 850s and k4 rears on friday in replacement to my rear ported monitor audio silver speakers and mission m7 ds.The main reason i changed the speakers was that i could only have the front three on top and either side my tv which the monitor audios didnt like(were booming with certain music even with the ports blocked).I searched in vain to try and find some quality speakers that would be good with music and movies and were of the sealed cabinet design and not overly big. Looked at small actives but no use becuase of rear ports,Then looked at the m&ks which seemed to fit the bill except they were rather expensive. After much thought ,what was 3k(with my sub)worth of speakers going to sound like on the end of my 600 quid nad receiver.Needed to lose boomy bass with music so upgraded speakers.Well all i can say is the m&ks sound fantastic even on the end of my lowly nad the build quality is superb and they look stunning in the maple finish.Iam sure ive come to the end of my speaker upgrades the next step is to give the m&ks the amplification they deserve so iam now saving the pennies for the next hc fix.
    Cheers Gonzo.

Your kit list sounds awfully familiar. Different kind of M&K at the front but apart from that, remarkably familiar :D

    Hi snowman
The reason i went for the 850s over the k17s was from the research i did (reading as much info as i could) the 850s are a much better speaker than the k17 +i didnt want to upgrade again for a long time so was worth the extra money. Also the decor in our lounge is mostly light woods which the maple 850s matched well.
I chose the k-4 rears as i didnt want to pay 1200 quid for the column surrounds and m&k advise to use there tripoles when not using the column surrounds.
    Hope this answers your question.
    Cheers Gonzo.:)

The column surrounds are great speakers though !!! I am seriously thinking about ordering another pair :D

The build and finish on the 850's is superb.

About 4 weeks - for the first week left them on all night every night increasing the volume more and more.

They now sound a lot sweeter and fuller then when I first heard them. To be honest I am still not sure that they are fully run in.

How are you finding yours (1610s) ? Are they much better than what you had before ?

    Hi Rags
The m&ks sound alot cleaner than the ma which is possibly due to the m&ks being a sealed enclosure.sound does seem to be a touch harder but this could be down to them being brand new ,also detail is alot clearer with the m&ks.Once the speakers are run in and the amplification changed iam sure the hardness will go but iam still impressed with them straight out the box ,there build quality is superb i cant imagine anyone being dissapointed with them.
    Cheers Gonzo.:D

Alot more detailed and cleaner than my old speakers, but they still sound a little harsh @ high outputs levels.

tbh I don't think they're run in fully yet either, and acoustics are playing a big part.

Just carpeted both side walls in my AV room and first reaction is that they sound slightly smoother, the top end has been taken of ever so slightly.
