please can you give me some advice.

    At the momment I have:
    Denon 3805 amp
    B&W 675 sub
    my speakers are:
    3 x MA Radius 180 and
    2 x Ma Radius 90

Im looking to upgrade these speakers to

    M&K 3 x K7 (or K17)
    M&K 2 x K5 (or K15)

Can anyone give me some advice on these speakers,
also is it worth the extra money to go for the K17 instead of the K7

Sorry but lastly I noticed the K7 (K17) are 4 ohms, will my denon 3805 have any problems with this.

    Kind Regards

    Gabs

I like the M&K speakers but haven't heard the Radius so can't comment.

An alternative for you to consider is the set of five M&K S85 speakers for sale here in the classifieds which whilst more expensive are leagues better than the K series.

Your Denon amp should be able to cope with them.

You're a gent for mentioning my S85's for sale!

Actually, I've just upgraded them to S125's and SS150 Tripoles (all off the forum sales of course!).
And, I have to say that although this system is better than the S85's, it's maybe only 5% better!
The S85's were the best buy I have ever made in Hi -Fi terms, and the difference over my old B&Ws staggering. They'll also stand a big increase in power as and when funds allow (as will most good speakers of course).
Have also heard the smaller K series in a showroom, and they also were nice sounding. (but not as good a buy as my lovely items lol!)
    OK sales pitch over!

I have s-85's and they are simply one of the best speakers I have heard, coupled with SS150THX, the dogs preverbials

    Thanks guys.

Do you think the denon 3805 and the MK7 and 5, would be a good match.

Is there much difference between the K17 and K7

I am running a 3805 amp with K7's and K4 speakers. The amp has no problem runnning them to very high levels. The M&K system is fantastic with movies, if you listen to a lot of music make sure you audition the system first. It's taken a lot of fine tuning of my system (mainly the sub) to get the speakers to sound any good with music....I'm nearly there.

Have never heard the K17's so can't comment on whether they are much of an improvement on the k7's.

    Cheers

The M&K's I listened to in the shop were well run in and sounded good with music. My room has a wooden floor plus the speakers are very new so they will get better.

I couldn't find a speaker that was smaller than my Dynaudios (which were stand mounted) which fitted the bill better than the K7's. Now I have no complaints from my other half about 'big ugly boxes' plus they sound better than the Dynaudios did with movies....just not quite as good with music.

What cd player are you using? When I was in the shop I was amazed at the difference there was between running a CD through a Denon 2900 versus a Cyrus CD7. I am using my dvd player to play cd's at the moment. As soon as I can afford it I will upgrade to the CD7 as it made a massive difference to the sound quality.

    Thanks James.

Ive just purchased a Arcam CD73T, hopefully there will be an improvement over my pioneer dvd player.

How would you describe the sound of your M&Ks with your Denon

    Cheers

The best way I can describe them is that they are playing exactly what they are being fed with . I hope that makes sense. I'm using a DVD player which is average when playing music. When I listened to the speakers in the shop (fed with the cyrus cd) they sounded highly detailed and forthright. It's hard to describe the sound as it's all a matter of opinion.

The subwoofer is crucial. Turn this off and musically the K7's sound weak as they aren't full range speakers. I recommend you hear a well run-in pair with your sub in a demo room. This is the only way to be sure they are right for you.

One thing I am learning is that the speakers are better when fed with a SACD source. Whether this is because of the external input on the amp or not I don't know. The Denon has a mode called 'pure direct' which doesn't get the best from the M&K speakers imo. I'm starting to use DPL 2 and DTS NEO settings which open up the soundstage more and give a more enjoyable experience.

    Cheers
