M&K MX5000 mk2 THX Ultra subwoofer what is the rating on this sub and is it worth a £1300 price tag second hand boxed etc mint.

Also i was wondering if it would go with some Kefs Reference series 103/4s i have.

    Thanks for looking .

I've not heard the sub, but for that price you could get a 2nd hand Velodyne HGS-15, almost a HGS-18, or even 2 Servo 15s, or you could almost get 2 brand new SVS imported from the states...

I'm sure there are other options/combinations that people will point you in the direction of, but I doubt (although I don't know for sure:D ) that the M&K will come close to the performance of the subs mentioned above.

Yo Smurfin its pistols at dawn !

    Mx-5000 is 400 watts
I've got an MX-350 which is good but doesnt go as low as my sunfire did. But it partners the M&K 150 very nicely.

I own an MX5000mk2 and its an excellent sub. Most people that dismiss its performance haven't actually heard it and base their assumptions on the MX350, which is a mistake as it goes lower and and is a lot more articulate and powerful than its sibling. £1300 is a good price, it's also worth noting that M&K don't seem to make that many of them so they're quite hard to get hold of for some reason.

I currently own a HGS-18, but my cousin has the M&K 5000 and to be perfectly honest, it is one awsome and refined sub. Well worth the money IMHO.

If you are talking about the 45B sub from KEF, then it isn't even approaching the performance of the other subs mentioned in this thread. Certainly, the 45B is not in step with your reference speakers. The only sub I have heard that may be suitable is a Martin Logan descent sub. How much it costs, and it's availability, is something not in your favour. To me, the M&K sub does sound like a good deal, but whether or not I would buy anything at that price without first listening to it is another matter.
