Well my wait for my new M&K 1510s (front 3 duties) still isn't over, but there is some good news.

Apparently they aren't going to be available for a while due to problems with manufacturing the drivers (i.e no drivers in stock), so Erics supplier is now sending 3 x 1610s at no extra charge.

Hopefully they should be with me by the end of next week, which means I'll just be listening to LFE next week as only my sub and rears will be left:D

Although there's been talk of the 1510s in various posts, I wondered if anyone has had any experience of the 1610s?

Certainly they're bigger monitors, but any real-world difference?

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's listened to these.

    Cheers
    Matt

    You lucky sod. :)

Smufin, regarding the performance of the MPS1610's, going by what I've read I think that they will perform pretty much like the MPS1510's but will fill up a slightly larger room.

The MPS2510's and the MPS1510's share exactly tha same size tweeters and woofers. However, the woofer on the MPS1610's is slightly larger than the woofer from both the MPS2510's and the MPS1510's so I don't know whether this translates to a slightly different sound.

Most of the M&K speakers use the 5.25" driver and it is only a couple that have the larger driver so I would also be interested in your review.

If they are having problems with the 5.25" driver they can't be selling much at the moment. Maybe it's time to sell mine at a premium for their rarity value.

How much does a MPS1615 normally go for?

The suggested retail price list from Pure Distribution is here. They are the official UK distributors of the M&K Pro range.

Curiously enough, Pure Distribution quote the MPS1510 and MPS1610 as having identical drivers which is not what M&K themselves say.

Smurfin, I have a pair of 1610s (also supplied by U Eric) for my stereo listening. I can't compare them with the 1510s, but I am delighted with them as they give a powerful, transparent and utterly neutral sound. A true monitor speaker I'd say. I presume you're aware they come without grilles and for that reason I wouldn't recommend them for households with small children.

Are those speakers the same as consumer M&K S85 and S85S?

Basically, yes. The 1510's are the same as the S85 but don't have the multiple binding posts, the angled front baffle or grills if I remember correctly.

Gecko say not, as the internal bracing is also different as well as the differences isolated by Jase

Matt F has listened to them both and has found that due to the MPS1510's improved cross-over, he prefers the sound of the MPS1510's over the S85's.

The Pro versions are suppose be slightly better than their consumer equivelent due to better cross-overs, hence a slighty higher price tag.

    Bernard Barnett,

Did you get a chance to listen to the MPS1610's before buying them? Did you choose the MPS1610's over the MPS1510's because of room-size?

    How big is your listening-room?

Smurfin - just thank your supplier - the 1610's are significantly more expensive than the 1510's and it was awfully good of him/her not to charge you any extra. Your patience has been rewarded.......:smashin:

TK, I have to confess I didn't listen to them before I got them - I just listened to Uncle Eric's recommendation as I trust his judgment completely. My spec to him was high-quality, small stand-mounted, uncoloured sound and magnetically shielded because of proximity to TV. I've had a lot of speakers over the years - my previous pair were Spendors - and these are easily the best.

Sorry, forgot to reply to TK's question about room size. It's about 25ft x 15. The 1610s, standing in free space in a bay, plus an M&K sub perform perfectly.
