M&K K1 kit for bedroom gaming/HTPC? (and some questions!)

Sorry for another post on this, I just need some 'final' feedback before I go and spend spend spend :D

But recently I was planning to get the Creative Gigaworks S750 speakers to use with my Xonar HDAV 1.3

That was... until I realised that I’d need HDMI if I plan on getting DTS-HA Master Audio or Dolby TrueHD out of my PC!

So anyway, Creative can shove their crappy speakers - I’ve come to the realisation that I’m going to need a nice little receiver for my bedroom and some 'decent' 5.1 (eventually 7.1) speakers!

Soooooooo........ I’ve decided on the TX-SR606 Onkyo amp... I have no doubts how excellent that will be.. I just need to decide on some speakers... I want to stick to around ~£500 and right now I'm leaning towards the M&K K1 set: MILLER and KREISEL K1 SYSTEM MILLER & KREISEL £649.00 at hifix.co.uk for £650 :D

I was considering the Tannoy Arena Lites... but I keep hearing good things about the M&Ks... any suggestions, or will the K1 set fulfil my gaming + Blu-Ray needs? :D

One final question I have... is just a bit of confusion on my part....

For GAMES.. I’m assuming I’ll need to output the multichannel data via analogue (seeing as the soundcard will decode it) - and for Blu-Ray I’ll want it to chuck it straight out of the HDMI, so the Onkyo can decode it.... (am I right so far?!)

There won't be any weird issues with having my PC connected to the Onkyo via HDMI + Analogue together.. right?

Any feedback gratefully received :D

The K series is a normal 8 ohms, so the 606 will drive them fine.

For movies, and gaming for that matter, you can't beat the detail level offered by the M&K's. They'll leave lifestyle speaker packages standing, even if they're not quite as good looking.

Not up on PC's, so can't help you here! But yes, the BD will need to output Bitstream via the HDMI.

So you're using the PC for games and BD playback? If so, you'll be able to connect two different audio inputs, and you'll be able to cycle through them with the 'digital input' button.

AFAIK you will need analogue for games unless you have a soundcard that has a dolby encoder or similar. I have my PC connected by 3 analogue leads (3.5mm jack to twin RCA) to my 875 for gaming.

Thanks guys, you've pretty much answered my questions :D

I do have one other quick one....

I 'was' tempted by the SVS SBS-01 5.1 kit (especially as the sub is awesome) - but i think they're going to be physically too big... so i'm most likely going to stick with the M&K K1 kit... Is the sub that comes with that (KX-10) still a good sub? (£650 for the whole kit seems like a bargain!)

thanks again :)

[ohh and another quick one! - is there a 'preferred' method of cabling the speakers? I hadn't actually thought about it before, and ive just realised there's a lot more options that I realised! http://www.hifix.co.uk/sku2.lasso?item=6653f318c06235a52c5c4d2765083133 Or will I be fine just sticking to 'bare wire' ?

:D
