Here's a quick overview of the German region-free 'further restoration' 80th Anniversary Edition- comes in a beautiful digibook.

    Just spotted - a 1.19:1 ratio film on a 2.44:1 ratio TV.

How you getting along with that?

    :smashin:

Excellent video, many thanks. Is that you?

Ha yes it's me in the video...yes well the black bars are massive obviously :D but you do get used to it after a while.
2.40:1 and 2.35:1 is a joy to watch on it tho (I actually plan to do a video on the Philips Cinema 21:9 tv soon- stay tuned!)
Thanks for watching and the compliments

No it's not- it is only on the outer slipcover tho, no ratings logo on the digibook itself.

I could be tempted by this. I'm due to go over to Germany next month. It'll be hard to leave it on the shelf if I see it.

I caught 'M' on TV on night by accident and I was going to... going to.. going to go to bed.

Well I did after it ended and didn't mind being tired the next day.
By modern technical standards it shouldn't have worked but maybe because they had so little they worked so hard to bring it over to the audience.
No effect, little sound so it was all about the acting.

I already have the UK one after reading a few reviews, there was not much different between the UK one and the criterion one.
    But like this one :)

While the acting is great, I always thought M was a masterclass of great film making. It's all in the editing and the compositions.

Beat me to it, not to mention the scripting, lighting, production and direction.

I was in Saturn today, a kind of German HMV but they didn't have it.

Which city are you in ? The larger cities have more than one branch.

Dusseldorf. I'm only aware of the one in Konigs Allee but I know there's another DVD store in a shopping centre south of the hauptbahnhof. I'll check that out if I get a chance.

    Cheers

I've just checked and there is another Saturn but according to their site they don't have it either.

Ok, I don't really know Dusseldorf, I go to Munich and Berlin a lot. If you are there long enough you could still order it via Amazon.de. That's what I do when I stay with my family in Munich. Otherwise it isn't too big a deal to get it send to the UK if you can spare 6 Euros for postage.

I'll almost certainly end up doing that. I was hoping I'd be able to pick it up here. It'd give me something to look forward to on my return home.
