    This week I started converting an old PC of mine into a HCPC (600Mhz Athlon/256MB)

    As part of the upgrade I bought the USB M-Audio Sonica Theater 7.1 sound card.

    I'm connecting it by coaxial digital only to a 5.1 amp.

    In the M-Audio control software I get no sound from the surround speakers or centre when playing testing signals in 5.1 mode.

    WinDVD4 bundled with the Sonica doesn't detect an SPDIF output device as it should and greys out the option in the sound settings.

    Basically the whole system seems to refuse to acknowledge that the Sonica Theater is a digital capable device rendering it completely useless.

    I emailed M-Audio tech support via their website and have recieved no reply.

    I'm left feeling like I've wasted £80 on something that was supposed to be made by a proffesional audio company.

    "gutted" :(

    Not sure how USB sound devices work, but have you set window's sounds (in control panel) to use the Sonica's SP/DIF output?
