I am quite suprised this launch went unnoticed as M-Audio's impending consumer-level soundcard has been talked about both here and on AVS extensively.

    Press release: http://www.m-audio.net/news/pdf/M-Audio_Revolution_PR.pdf

The great thing is the price - just $99. For that you'll probably get sound quality light years better than anything else in that price range, decent drivers, huge configurability, SRS Circle Surround II and decent physical I/O, i.e. RCA co-axial output (not a stupid minijack!) and well-spaced 3.5mm outputs.

I think I remember reading a post by Cliff (M-Audio blokey at AVS) that the S/PDIF circuitary will be all but identical to the 410. Nice...

I might get one for CSII of external sources, alone. Who wants to buy an Audigy 2? :D

    MuFu.

P.S. Having said that, this A2 has exceeded my expectations by far. Probably a better soundcard than many people here would like to believe. ;)

This M-audio Revolution card looks like the business.
I was about to upgrade my PC, making sure I specified an Audigy 2 soundcard to get DVD-Audio playback and Dolby Headphone.

Does the M-Audio Revolution card supprt DVD-Audio & Dolby Headphone?

    Thanks

Well it support Dolby Headphone through PowerDVD/WinDVD (preferably PowerDVD, of course). :)

As for DVD-A, the DACs are capable so it's just a question of software support - there's not really much to stop any 24/192-capable soundcard supporting DVD-A if the software is up to it. I expect licensing complications have prevented all but Creative's player gaining approval to implement the spec. I'm sure there are other DVD-A software players in development but I'd imagine that the qualification process if quite long, probably to iron out copyright issues etc.

This card will be on my shopping list for upgrading my HCPC in the new year (along with a Radeon 9500). I was going to replace my SBLive4.1 with an M-Audio 2496 but Cliff reckons the Revo's SPDIF is of the same standard.

Hopefully if we can buy them in the UK all-inclusive at under £100 it should be a bargain.

They're not out until at least 2nd Jan in the US, and EU/rest of world shortly after.

Excuse my being lazy, but i dont have time to go through the AVS thread.....

Is the SRS Circle Surround II for external sources? What exactly is it? like pl2? If so, are we seeing the fore runner of a card capable of external source processing?

All we need to know now is whether the turn on thump from the 410 has been banished from this card, as this is a major pain for those of us running the 410 as pre/pro.

Hey buns, found your answer (I think :)). On page 19:

    Oh, more confirmation further down:

Both those quotes are from Cliff Watson of Digital Connection who also appears to have ahad a big input on the development of both the Delta410 and Revo card.

As for Circle Surround II, see here but get rour reading specs on cos that page is up to 5 pages already :)

I am quietly hoping that this card will put pressure on Creative to buy a licence to incorporate DPLII of external sources into their A2 drivers. CMSS I/II just can't cut it.

Any idea when this will be available in the uk? Have any suppliers said that they intend to stock it, and if so how much is it likely to cost?

I am very tempted to import this card from the US if the UK release date is far off.

I am having serious problems with my Audigy 2 (weak Subwoofer signal being sent to my Amp from the analog inputs).

This is where I'm going to get it from. Cliff Watson one of the guys there has put a massive amount of effort into getting the card right (blame him for teh delay!). He also had a big hand in the Delta 410 consumer drivers.

I've just ordered mine (Theatertek bundle), and what I'll do is when they get back to me regarding shipping cost I'll put on here how much it was.

    Where do headphones plug in?

Pretty simple actually...the headphones are plugged into the R/L-front speaker-port. With the software bundle one will be able to chose what type of speakers one uses, e.g. Headphones.

Dunno yet cos it's not out :) You could ask M-Audio in the UK, they might (should) know. http://www.maudio.co.uk/

Yeah MuFu, tax could be interesting. I'm going to ask nicely if they could mark the Theatertek as zero value (as you actually pay for the code :)) to keep it down a bit. Computer equipment is only liable to VAT rather than that and import duty, so will be in the region of £10 depending on how much shipping is. Wether the carrier then charges me an 'admin fee' is another matter! Still gotta live dangerously :D When I got a VFD imported from Matrix Orbital I got stung.

And Tim, my typing is atrocius, I know that. I type faster than I can think, and the is by far the worst typo I make (like 80% of the time I try to type the flippin word!) Just for you I've actually 'proof read' this post. I don't do that very often, and it shows! :p

I dont know how it works in the UK but over here in Sweden we usually ask the retailer e.g. from the US, to type in visible style and letters. GIFT on the package. By that no VAT (hopefully) has to be paid ;).

Unfortunately not many people will agree to 'bend teh rules' that much, and as teh declared value would have to be well above the ~£30 that gifts are allowed to be tax free in the UK (don't know about any other country) it would still be liable.

I think you'll find that Digital Connections are all "above board" regarding tax.
I bought my Delta 410 from them, and the tax/VAT bill came to £26 odd. The shipping from the States was (IIRC) around $30. However, you might get them to send it via regular Air Mail rather than courier to save a few $$.

Re suppliers in the UK - maybe contact these guys - they seem to stock a lot of the MAudio stuff, and the prices are pretty good for the UK.

    Hi all
just had a replying regarding shipping from Digital connection,
to the uk major city is $28 (£17)
that would make the total around $128 (£80approx)
even if you put duty on that it should still be around £100, which is around the same as the Audigy2, presume this card is going to be better,
and I think that the uk suppliers are not going to be a lot cheaper.

    The question is
is this card going to be worth the money if you are going to just be using the SPDIF out.
