m-audio 2496 no sound via optical when playing dd plus

    i only can get sound out of the 2 analogue outs when playing batman begins. using power dvd ultra

    shouldn't it down mix it to dd?

    uhm.. it's not downmixing in the sense that a the sample rate / width is adjusted, it's transcoding (decoding to PCM and re-encoding to regular AC3). the wikipedia article says that transcoding isn't mandatory for decoders, but I guess it's just a matter of time before a software player implements that.

    the transcoding isn't optimal with regard to audio quality, but since the ddplus receivers are in their first or second generation, it would be foolish to buy one now.
