Hey guys,

Wondered if I could pick your brain on my setup. I built a HTPC over a year and a half ago and pretty much went stock on all things cooling. I'm now using it more and more for hi-def movies and gaming which means temps are spiralling higher.

I have just bought new case fans which should help, however, I've bought a new CPU cooling which I have just realised wont fit, or will fit but will mean I'll have to lose a bit of RAM.

My setup is as follows;

CPU - AMD A8 5500 Black Edition
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-F2A85XM-D3H
RAM - 4x4GB Corsair Vengeance
Case - Silverstone GD05b

The Mobo has the CPU pretty close to the RAM so not only will the cooling have to be low profile, it can't be wide either. I have just bought a Zalman CNPS8900, but this will mean I lose one stick of RAM and/or another as the RAM has cooling. (You can see it in the image below).

I replaced the fans in the case mainly because they were just too loud under full load, but the newer Corsair fans are pretty good at getting more air in/out much quieter.

Can anyone recommend me a pretty good low profile CPU cooling solution please? Or am I missing something that I haven't thought about yet?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Do you really need 16GB for an HTPC? I presume its also a general purpose PC or for gaming?

I've definitely seen a very noticeable diff under gaming and huge memory loads. I'd ideally want to keep it.

Yep - its used for pretty much everything. It started out as a HTPC only but is being used for gaming as well as general use.

Any suggestions?
