Hi all. I've got a pretty good idea of the kind of technology I need to sort out some logistical problems with my AV setup, and I'm looking for suggestions. My basic requirements would be o a 5.1 integrated amp (although 3.1 would be fine if such a beast exists) o a physically low profile - the unit needs to be as low as possible at the front, maybe in the region of 3" to 3.5"? 1U in computing rack-mount terms. A pizza box! o pre-outs for at least the front two channels That's about it. Digital signal processing isn't a must - i.e. it could be just an amp, not a processor (although processing would be a bonus). Video switching and/or processing certainly isn't needed. So, any ideas please? Thanks in advance. Guy
Uhh, watching movies basically. The general idea is to use the pre-outs to drive a stereo integrated amp that will take CD signals directly for music, but will also drive the fronts for 5.1 (used as just a power amp in this situation). Rack space is at something of a premium, hence the desire for something pretty shallow. Hope that explains it. I'm not looking for something that will knock down the walls of Jericho - just something fairly basic and competent. Cambridge Azur possibly? Cheers, Guy
pioneer 502? Yamaha have some slim amps and if you could incorp a 3 channel Power amp a seconhand DD/DTS processor may be possible Pio http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/product_detail.jsp?product_id=9188&taxonomy_id=42-98 EDIT scrub the Pio it has 5.1 ins but not pre outs........... http://www.avland.co.uk/panasonic/saxr50/saxr50.htm again no preouts........ could possibly use the tape loop line level outputs but then you need to balance the volumes.... needs some thought this one............ why so shallow? rack mounting has never been height limited unless you are well short of space in the rack and unless its a cooled rack it will heat up very very fast!!! Especailly with a 5 channel and stereo amp in it!
Mm, I'd seen that one coming. Ehh, well it's wide three shelf rack. TV on top, centre speaker on the next shelf, and DVD player, VCR, and two amps need to go on the bottom shelf. The stereo integrated is about 3.5" high - I'd be looking for something of a similar size. I'm also restricted on box count and size of components by WAF Cheers, Guy
Right - that's something I wouldn't discover until I got the sucker home - very handy to know. Thanks. Guy
Yes, sorry - the mention of 1Us etc. prolly made it sound like a server rack. I was just imagining about the size of box I was looking for Cheers, Guy
