Looking for a receiver for use with dvd movies and music cd's (therefore must be DD & DTS)
Looking for as cheap as possible ie under £250 if possible.

    Any recommendations appreciated

Denon AVR 1801, costs about £399 at retail so you should be able to find it for less, around £300 should be possible.

ive just purchased the yamaha 520 rds receiver for £285 although u can get it cheaper if u shop around :)
good quality amp, both dd and dts, fast decoding and very accurate stereo imo.
70watts rms although it feels like much more in my small room. same 32bit lsi chip as the 620 main diff between the two being subtle differences on the front panel and the 520 has clip terminals for centre and rears whereas the 620 has binding posts all round, also the 620 is more powerfull at 90watts rms :)
i highly rate the yamaha kit (as u can tell)
and would deff recommend the 520 as an all round starter :)

    Hi,

    Lowbudget amps.
Hmm have you checked out the Denon 1601?
It's one of the best low budget amps around.

An alternative is checking out the amps that has been replaced. Yamaha and Onkyo have just replaced there models. So i guess the Yamaha RXV596 and the Onkyo 575 will be much cheaper now. If you're lucky you can still find them.

Kenwood and pioneer also have a good name with cheap HC amps.

I just got my Denon 1801 (definately a receiver) from www.stb-electronics.com.
£250, absolutely sweet sound, and delivery was next morning for £24. I don't believe you'll find better sound quality for the money ...
