Last year there was considerable discussion over which extended edition was better, (sound problems etc) the R2 EIV 4 disc set or the R1 4 disc set. I bought the latter.
Does anyone know if which of the two is the preferred choice this time around?
I am tempted to buy R1 again but does anyone have any tips or opinions?

Go for the Region 1 :)

Cardboard box, and won't have any pitch problems.

Region 1 purely for sturdier packaging, aside from the "pitch" issue...:)

    Nah- fairly good.

About the same as Play- usually 1 week.
Anyway what's the rush? As long as it takes no more than 2 weeks- I'm not bothered.

For the love of God go for the Region 1 version - if only to be safe. I was the one who started the whole thing about LOTR being utterly pap on Region 2, and the extended certainly could have been better - no bugger listened to me though, so now I know how Jesus felt :(

I didn't listen because a) I bought the R1 4 discer LOTR boxset before browsing these forums and b) Region 1 is better anyway :rotfl:

R1 it is then. I ordered this today from Play for £24.99.
How come some already appear to have it if it is not released until November?
Also, cdwow also have it for £25 so has it been cheaper?

Cancel that order! Most likely you'll get done by customs (>£18 R1 from Play)

Order from DVD Soon or CD-Wow

Will all the PAL versions have the crappy thin cardboard packaging, or is it just the UK?

I' startign to have a few doubts as well. the statue doesn't look as good as the argonaths. plus the R1 will be prohibitly expensive (the giftset I mean)
Might still go for the UKR2 giftset but only if they have all the eextras of the R1 otherwise it might just be the R1 single EE

The R2 is very likely to have the "crappy thin" card packaging so it matches the first one!
I am betting the R1 will have the thicker stuff, also to match the first.
