I've now bought three copies of this set and ten out of twelve discs have some sort of scratch on them. So, out of three sets, I can't even make one clean set.

This has to be the shoddiest dvd set I've ever bought.

"why did you buy 3 sets?"

One for me, one for my brother and one to take out any decent discs from, then send back.

My set arrived from Play, perfectly sealed etc, and the DVD's sitting nicely in their cases.

Unfortunately all the discs were also scratched to hell.

It has promptly been sent back to Play.

as the sets are new two of the pegs holding the disc in place (not the pushin one) are bit too tight. You can avoid that by using one of those nail files (the thing you use to get rid of sharp edges on you finger nails) to slightly (!!!!!) reduce the pegs size.
that`s what I didn and my discs now, even though still firmly hold in place are removed a lot easier.

I bought a copy from Asda.
The first disk was scratched quite badly. Fortunately after playing
    it, it worked ok.
The forth disk was so hard to release I was close to snapping the disk in 2!

Maybe Freddy Kruger was packing them :(

If anyone wants a scratched disk give them to my kids and they'll oblige.

My R2 EE set came from dvd.co.uk today. All the discs are fine but the fold out bits have been stuck together wrongly so one edge is too long meaning the edge of the box has been bent.

Has anyone had any problems playing their discs? Or is it all just superficial?

Lex, they're superficial, but it's just not right when you buy an expensive collector's set.

I think they're superficial. Do scratches ever produce faults in sound or image, or is it a case that the dvd just won't play?

    ldoodle, it's the EE.

I'm sure scratches must sometime cause problems in playback but my Raiders from the Indy set arrived with a bad scratch across almost the entire disc but played fine, so I guess it's a matter of suck and see. That said your quite right of course, you shouldn't have to accept a damaged product, but it's a matter of if you want the trouble of returning it when it does in fact play OK. Personally I don't but you may.

Oddly the only disc I've had that refused to play at all didn't have a mark on it.

Disc 1 freezes about 1 min from the end but there is no scratch. Also there was no booklet with the Gollum disc. Did you get one ?

The box for the Gollum disc would look very empty without the accompanying booklet.
    It should have one.

My 4 disc set had finger marks on the discs, and some very slight scratches. It was wrapped when I bought it, so this is another reason for me to hate EiV. I should have got the R1 :thumbsdow

But the discs play ok and the film is ace :D

Some of my discs also contain scratches but nothing serious enough for me to return them, would likely get discs that are in worse condition lol

I totally agree and wouldn't accept it.

I don't own a single EIV disc and I don't see any reason for that to change - R1 for me :lesson:
