What is the difference between them? as the only thing I can think of is the languages on the packaging might also be in French but dont titles like that usually have VF written next to them?

well, may be nothing really. they might have used the saved space (french dub and sub eg.) for additional pics bitrate though.
some reviews after release might bring s'thing 4ward...

PS: and R1 boxes are often sturdier than R2 - certainly the case with my LOTR-FotR! but wouldn't know whether that's also the case from R1 US to R1 Can

There's a post somewhere on this site with a link to a £2 voucher at sendit.com who are selling RoTK for 17.49 (15.49 with the voucher)

How about. Amazon don't charge until they ship, so that price could go up or down.

well, you get an order confirmation incl. price. it goes up you don't pay more, it goes down before it's shipped to you, you get the benefit of the cheaper one - no worries, that's the way it works with pre-orders anywhere i would think.

I think Sick Boy was referring to fluctuations in exchange rates.

It has the same UPC number as the version traded by US stores so it's the US version dvdsoon is selling.

No it's not. Alliance Atlantis distribute ALL New Line DVD's in Canada and are the ones who mess about with the discs and artwork (i.e. putting french in the booklet, on the disc artwork and also putting French audio on the discs). So someone has there UPC codes wrong :lesson:

if you look at the exrate fluctuation over the last couple of months,

    http://finance.yahoo.com/currency/convert?amt=1&from=USD&to=GBP&submit=Convert

    i'd say it's a ~2% max. - that risk i can take :D
though admittedly, the outcome of the presidential elections might have an impact - just imagine myself sitting there and hoping for the "right" one to win in order to safe another 30 cents

    thx Listy, :)
that's my understanding: the us comes with english dub and sub only whereas the can has the additional! french track and sub -> with impact on possible bitrates !?!

No. The English Dolby Surround 2.0 track that comes with the US version (alongside the DTS and 5.1) is substituted with the French Dolby Surround track. It wouldn't make sense to re-encode the whole package business wise.
