until last week when I installed a new router from EE, I could watch a utube video on my phone or iPad and by clicking on an on-screen symbol, could transfer the image to my tv. That symbol or icon doesn’t appear on videos on my phone or iPad now and I can no longer transfer a video to my tv. Can anyone help me to get the transfer-to-tv facility back again please?

It sounds like you haven't connected the TV or receiver device (chromecast etc.) to your new home network.

So the cast button in the netflix app on your phone works but the one in the youtube app doesn't?

Do you have any receivers like a chromecast plugged into your TV?

Not familiar with cast buttons, but the only things plugged into the tv are the sky box, a DVD player and of course the mains lead.

996F07D6-069F-4763-A8EF-6E65842823A3.jpeg View attachment 1049035 With the last router, we had a small screen image on the video screen which when clicked on connected to the tv. That small image no longer appears.

Yeah there is a native Youtube cast function with no need for extra devices, I do not know how it works but at some level it must probe the local network for any compatible receivers.

It's possible the new router has security settings which blocks such traffic so the icon disappears as a result.

Another shot in the dark is the router has something like IGMP multicast or IP multicast disabled, this is relied on by some streaming tech, if the router has such an option try enabling it and see if the icon comes back.

A symbol you tap on the screen can be called a button, and cast or mirror is the term for transferring a video or screen image to your TV.

Sorry for the time lag. According to the tv, it is connected to my phone but the cast icon I used previously has disappeared. Also, in the settings on the tv, the ‘Link to a phone’ choice is greyed out. Will keep trying.

There are methods a TV and Phone can used to communicate, which support different things. Unless those things you've mentioned are specifically under a screen mirroring section then they don't mean much.

Wifi routers have a setting that can either allow all wifi devices to see each other, or to hide everything from everything (so each device things it is all by itself on the WiFi network).

It may be the case that the new router has this set to "hide". This option is sometimes called "wireless isolation".

Thanks for all the inputs to this thread. Phoned the tech people at EE Customer Care and followed the agents advice to divide our WiFi into 2 distinct parts and although I had no idea as to what I was doing, at the end of the procedure I had my cast icon back. Now everything is as it was before and I can get back to instant access to what I’m watching on my phone on my tv. Thanks again guys.

C58DA0D0-03DF-4C96-AFD6-E284C77BF590.jpeg ......and here is the missing cast icon reinstated! BTW, I have no idea how I managed to create the wrong title to this thread. It should have read “Missing You Tube Facility”. Sorry about that.
