I don't think the Japanese parts are subtitled in the film anyway if I remember correctly.

I think I read on another forum that it has english subtitles. although they may not be burnt on. The disc quality/extras are supposed to be as good as the r1 release.

    Only quoting others..

No subs for the Japanese bits as far as I can work out.

It would appear that this is normal though. taken from a review of the R4:

"The majority of lines are spoken very succinctly, but there is stacks of Japanese here that poor old me didn’t understand. This isn’t subtitled either (thankfully) and is used more as a language gag than anything (or perhaps the literal delivery of the film’s title)."

What's the picture quality like on this? I have read one review on the net that says it is horribly dark and flat, but most other reviews say that its pretty good for a low budget film. Wouldn't mind getting this, but am unsure about the picture!!!

The picture is average, but that is going to be the case on all of the releases, not just the R3. It's down to how it was filmed, not the encoding.

Please inform me on the conclusion - Daneel wrote that: "No subs for the Japanese bits as far as I can work out."

But does it or does it not have subtitles on the japanese parts????

No, because the cinematic release didn't.

The Japanese speaking parts are often the most hilarious, coupled with Murray's hounddog expression.

It's not supposed to have subs for the Japanese parts, there aren't many anyway. The R3 is direct port of the R1.
