"Although immediately reminiscent of Lost, the show has much more in common with Battlestar Galactic"

Completely sold, just based on this sentence. Please let there be no unanswered questions about hatches, the numbers, and the smoke monster. I don't think I'm capable of getting that scarred from a TV show again :D

      Nice review, Thank you.
Looking forward to this. Remember the 80s version which never really took off.
Toby Stephens and Molly Parker make for a interesting pairing.

Feel like a binge coming on this weekend.

      Peace!

Looks like it's aimed squarely at kids from the trailers, very much pushing the cliches of unusually intelligent and athletic children saving the day. Surprised it's a 12 and not a PG or U though.

I wonder if Robot or Robbie the Robot are in it? They weren't in the trailers, and Robbie is one of the most famous sci-fi robots of all time.

Great review. Must admit I'm a tad young for the original series but really enjoyed the movie so very keen on this. That's tonight's viewing pleasure sorted.

a big fan of the film as really enjoyable nonsense and yes surprisingly dark in places. The TV series was a bit lame but of it's time the Meme's from that show are great and a favorite in Family Guy. Never even knew they had a go at reviving this in the 80's.... Thanks for the review plan to give it ago tonight...

      Thanks for the review Cas,

I was looking for a new show to add to my list, currently rewatching GOT and just started “the crossing” and this will fill the space-fi gap nicely :D

Definitely not for kids. It's pretty dark, especially the robot.

      Thanks for the review :)

I haven't seen the original or the movie or anything... so this will be completely new to me. I was a bit worried this would be a bit kiddish, but it doesn't sound like it is that much. Will add it to my watch list!

Just watched the first 2 episodes, and really liked them. Robot is super cool :) As a kid I loved the original series, and quite enjoyed the film. Different again, but good stuff so far.

Having watched the first 5 episodes, I'd agree that it does try to hook the kids in. But is this a bad thing? At first, it worried me. But then, I'm fed up of investing time in shows such as Earth 2, Space: Above & Beyond, and Firefly, that get dropped after 1 season. LIS has gone for wider appeal to try and improve the chances of success. And so far, the segments of the show that are 100% designed to appeal to a younger audience have not stopped me enjoying the show. Toby Stephens, alone, keeps the show grounded. And, the updated DR Smith character is a convincingly untrustworthy space travelling pantomime villain.

So far................not bad at all :)

5 episodes already? Blimey, it just came out today!
It takes me months to watch 5 episodes of any show. One episode of any show per week is my absolute limit.

3 in and its pretty good. Getting a right kicking on IMDB though - political correctness being their biggest problem.

Toby Stephens alone makes this a must-watch after his scenery stealing turn in Black Sails. Looking forward to a darker modern take on this ...

Having said that I watched a couple of interviews with him talking about the show and he really looked like he couldn't be bothered ... in fact he looked like he really didn't want to even be talking about the show.

Hopefully that doesn't come across in the show.:p

Makes me laugh that a "stream" can look and sound better than some of the dreadful 4k Blu-Rays that have been released!

Some of the Dolby Vision stuff on Netflix looks fantastic, i'm sure this will be no different......

binge watched it yesterday - all episodes!!! very good story, it actually feels like one long movie.

they could have extended the renegade and the back story to the alien tech into at least 2 or more episodes - i would have like to have seen that rather than the flashback sequences

I watched a load of it last night I really like it just don't expect it to be anything like the original it's more like a very improved version of the 1998 movie it looks higher budget than that. It's script is very well thought out.

Just watched the third episode and I am very impressed by the darker story line and the change of emphasis of some of the characters like Will, from the original. As long as it keeps this up, and on Netflix's productions so far it will, it will be a good watch.

They should keep on treating each episode as its own story line, like the original or for later watchers the likes of Star Trek. Keeping an underlying story line is good but can get a bit draggy and predictable if not done well. For instance it's probable that the Robinsons will come across the Robots own kind at some stage setting up a conflict of interest. But the robot is very, very dark as opposed to the originals fluffy, jokey robot. I'm not bothered by having a female Dr Smith as she's nicely evil and the original show Smith was a bit of a comic charcater although I get the PC references. Also Judy being black is an unexplained mystery unless I missed any mention of her being adopted. But it doesn't detract from the show as the acting and script are excellent. If you liked the film with Matt Le Blanc in your will enjoy this even more.

Mind you the original series really was a kids show and I find it pretty unwatchable now because of the overly light hearted adventures and poorly created aliens but of its time it was a must watch show. So, this new show looks good and I think another Netflix success...

2 episodes in and I'm not too impressed tbh. I'll stick it through but I found it dull so far. Maybe a slow burner? Or maybe cause I've just watched something amazing? But I watched the new Star Trek few months back and was far more into that the and I'm more Wars than Trek

      Edit -

Mentioned in passing Ep5. Dad came after she was born.

@Casimir Harlow - Money Heist. Netflix. Trust me.
