Start by reading the back of the box - it tells you a little. Also note that very last bit of the movie (a second before the credits roll) - look at how his face changes..... Then try this: http://www.jasonsweb.com/LostHighway/ You've got a bit of reading to do, but it's definitely worth it. ;)

Be warned though, as the author of that web site states:
True to form, David Lynch (and Gifford) won't reveal anything so you have to interpret some bits yourself and this is a perfectly acceptable thing to do (and is fun too :)). It's also as Lynch (and Gifford) intends his work to be.

The above site will explain the vast majority of what is going on though :)

Also, you can try http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/2093/papers/herzogenrath.html - but it's a bit academic for my liking.

You might also want to browse http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/2093/lhindex.html
(click on the Lost Highway icon to enter; it has some interesting links).

Check out "Mulholland Drive" if you haven't already - it's one of his finest movies and much easier to understand. :) Lost Highway is Lynch's "weirdest" film to date (possibly with the exception of "Eraserhead" which is the only Lynch film I haven't really liked so far) and is a hard starting point for anyone, but particularly for those who haven't seen Lynch before.
