Amazons Wheel of Time’s director Wayne Che Yip (Hunters, Preacher, Utopia (Channel 4) and Doctor Who) directing 4 episodes,
After J A Bayona directed the first two episodes

Yip;
“It is a true honor to be invited into the world of Tolkien by J.D. & Patrick and Amazon Studios. Every day I look forward to working with the incredible team here in New Zealand as we humbly contribute to the legacy of the greatest stories ever told,“

Amazon's 'The Lord of the Rings' to Cost $465M for Just One Season

It’s a concern. The best known stories have been well told so they’ve got to build up enthusiam for other takes. Fine for fantasy fans but Amazon needs a good mainstream audience for that sort of budget.

So is this using characters from various books? Or just filling in the gaps with artistic license?

Other than Galadriel etc do we know the names of the characters and are they Tolkien creations or Amazon's?

As for Amazon’s series, the show is expected to explore new storylines that occur before the events of the “The Fellowship of the Ring” film.

Though Amazon did not specify what characters any of the aforementioned talents would be portraying, one of the actors is a franchise veteran: Tait portrayed Shagrat, an antagonistic Black Uruk (Orc) in “The Return of the King.”

Thank god Lenny Henry is in this. There's me worrying this series was going to be sh*tfest...
He’s not is he? Or are you talking the cr*p 🤣
Even if Sir Henry was, it would likely be a small cameo role
if it’s good enough for stephen fry

weird, why?

Not sure if that's rhetorical, but if it isn't, then I'd have to say that seeing Theophilus P. Wildebeeste in Middle Earth isn't gonna be great for immersion...

I forgot about this.

Hope it gets a disc release so we can get some proper bitrate going.

Hardly surprising and good news for GB.

There will be no Hobbiton or Hobbits in this series. It's set before the time of Hobbits. They may have come into existence at some point in the second age but they don't come into any of the tales until into the 3rd Age.
